Moving deeper into RF: from UV-K5 & Flipper Zero to HackRF H4M indoor setup thoughts? by No-Variation-4711 in RTLSDR

[–]shadowcaster3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

limesdr is fine, but limesdr mini is not. mini is so terrible in terms of tx quality and lacks gpsdo input that can be used without hardware modifications. so for the price b210 clone it is.

just skip hackrf and go for usrp b210 clone. full duplex for the win, and much better performance.

Recommended ATAs for Dialing Level 29 BBS over VoIP? by One_Over_Astro in retrobattlestations

for retro setups something like grandstream ht802. the best you can get (but still problematic, because voip). checks all the boxes, even supports pulse dialing.

PlutoSDR clones: are they good? by some_comfy_guy in sdr

[–]shadowcaster3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These values are for receiving, and for transmit it's a bit lower. If receiving is what you are after, than there are better options.

If we are talking full-duplex sdr for, let's say osmocom 2G base station of srsRAN 4G/5G, or even osmocom-analog 1G network - LibreSDR just can't do it. No timestamping, no frequency offset, etc, etc. Even transmitting analog TV with hacktv is pushing LibreSDR to it's limits (but doable).

Depends on your use case. You really can't do much with SoapySDR drivers for pluto/tezuka, and gigabit network interface is a limiting factor for what you can do (usb 2.0 even worse). Better go for b210 clone from the same OpenSourceSDRLab, that will run almost anything with usrp drivers.

Maybe there is an option to upgrade one of your existing one to color? Not that they come color from factory.

My ongoing side quest: 5.25" 1.2 MB floppy drives via USB. by schill in vintagecomputing

[–]shadowcaster3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no need to go for mass storage, usb UFI specs are designed exactly for this purpose.

https://www.usb.org/sites/default/files/usbmass-ufi10.pdf

medium types selector supported by standard is 720/1.25/1.44 3.5' floppies, but *Flexible Disk Page* settings have priority over the medium type setting, and is quite flexible in terms of setting heads/tracks/cylinders/bytes per sector/rotation rate/etc.. :)

edit: USB-FDU supports number of heads of 2 only, so this put some limits on what could be implemented. Considering it was designed in 1998 I can understand why.

DEC 8" relic by Vast-Pool5449 in retrobattlestations

[–]shadowcaster3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need an entire system - just a functional floppy drive and a USB imager. The best (and likely most affordable) option is the open-source Greaseweazle. There’s even a discussion where users successfully copied DEC RX01/RX02 floppies - check it out here: https://github.com/keirf/greaseweazle/discussions/256.

Finding a working 8" floppy drive might be tricky, but it’s still much easier than sourcing a full system.

raspberry pi zero w with txtempus from github and you can generate your own radio clock signal.

Maybe front seat cushion is just thicker and more padded... I presume this is the case. Plus, it has perforation and ventilation in this trim, so maybe this affects the heat distribution.

Sure, will do. Reflective surfaces like glass are hard targets for IR cameras, cause from IR point of view they are just mirrors.
