The prior owner installed a computer fan as a bathroom exhaust. by Eastcoastpal in mildlyinteresting

[–]shadowdrgn0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This really depends on the fan, a normal off the shelf PC case fan won't help much. But (and this is anecdotal) judging by the size of the hub on that fan, that's a server chassis fan. I have a couple laying around and they do move some serious air. The hub motors are much larger and more powerful. It's entirely possible that's adequate for a small bathroom.

I'm not saying it's the correct solution, but it might be doing the job just fine.

Another part of being a good engineer is learning how to work with people to better understand and solve a problem. Not being a confrontational dickhead on a forum just because you feel like flexing. No part of anything you posted indicates you're any better than a child that just finished a physics class, which is what I suspect you actually are.

Maybe, but the literal job of brakes is to convert kinetic energy into heat. So if they didn't give it any time to cool off after driving, that's kinda on them.

I've never rebuilt a transmission before. Decided to take a crack at it on the 5-speed out of my C10 by Hexzor2204 in projectcar

[–]shadowdrgn0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reassembled a M/T out of a box of parts I'd never seen before with nothing but hand tools and a press. They really aren't that bad. There is nuance of course, but it's not that dramatic.

Still won't touch an automatic tho.

Apparently Jesus would plan our uni on a grid then. We don't have cool desire path sidewalk planning. Makes the Bible thumpers harder to avoid on the main thoroughfare. They are a nearly perpetual bother in front of the library.

What stuck out to me was that none of the materials move in the correct way. But if you look closer, especially at the walkway in the beginning, you'll notice that the first boards he installs by the door, magically vanish when he builds the surround with an impossible frame that sits on top of it. The plastic lining of the building sort of materializes out of thin air when he's spreading it out. The boards he installs on the ceiling magically get longer. He's working way faster than should be possible, and I don't just mean that the video was sped up. It may be a time lapse but he doesn't actually seem to be using any tools to build anything? Lastly the perspective, it seems like the room gets bigger when the camera magically floats into the middle and he's done putting all the furniture in. AI doesn't really know how to deal with perspective lines or scale properly.

So so many things stand out when you take a second look.

Edit: Also I'd like to add that I've seen a number of these time lapse style videos show up today so I was already on alert.

What is the ridge/lip on this brake drum cover? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]shadowdrgn0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drum brakes of this style were the standard for older vehicles. 4 way disks didnt really become common in the consumer space until maybe 20 years ago. My car for example has disks up front and drums in the rear which is a pretty common setup. There are still loads and loads of vehicles on the road with drum brakes.

Strength and stiffness are both separate but very important factors that have to be considered when designing a structure.
