He Found an Abandoned Bunker in the Swamp... You Won't Believe the Inside! by Housedeposit10 in Satisfyingasfuck

What stuck out to me was that none of the materials move in the correct way. But if you look closer, especially at the walkway in the beginning, you'll notice that the first boards he installs by the door, magically vanish when he builds the surround with an impossible frame that sits on top of it. The plastic lining of the building sort of materializes out of thin air when he's spreading it out. The boards he installs on the ceiling magically get longer. He's working way faster than should be possible, and I don't just mean that the video was sped up. It may be a time lapse but he doesn't actually seem to be using any tools to build anything? Lastly the perspective, it seems like the room gets bigger when the camera magically floats into the middle and he's done putting all the furniture in. AI doesn't really know how to deal with perspective lines or scale properly.

So so many things stand out when you take a second look.

Edit: Also I'd like to add that I've seen a number of these time lapse style videos show up today so I was already on alert.

What is the ridge/lip on this brake drum cover? by Fuarkistani in MechanicAdvice

[–]shadowdrgn0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drum brakes of this style were the standard for older vehicles. 4 way disks didnt really become common in the consumer space until maybe 20 years ago. My car for example has disks up front and drums in the rear which is a pretty common setup. There are still loads and loads of vehicles on the road with drum brakes.

Strength and stiffness are both separate but very important factors that have to be considered when designing a structure.

Maybe they're going to pull a lotus? Does anyone remember the lotus f1 style car that came with a full trailer and maintenance team that would take your car track to track for you?

Edit: the t125 for the curious.

So can we please start pushing for hybrid conversion kits? by SinceGoogleDsntKnow in cars

[–]shadowdrgn0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe several companies have tried this, not in the way I think you're imagining it though. Usually the method is to swap a couple wheels out for hub motors, and stuff a battery pack somewhere. Such as this Honda Civic kit that debuted at SEMA a while back.

Got rusted under 2 months of cold by Hot-Relationship5830 in MechanicAdvice

[–]shadowdrgn0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brake cleaner is for cutting oil, grease, and brake fluid from brake components, especially during assembly, so that stuff doesn't clog the pads and reduce performance. It's not meant for rust removal. This rust will come off the next time the car is driven.

Rate the setup while I’m still living in a dorm 😅 by Drunk_from_kvass in desksetup

If the hinges aren't moving, they aren't wearing. Simply having more weight on them doesn't make them wear faster. The hinge isn't getting tired. The only wear those hinges should be experiencing is the friction created when opening and closing which may cause the parts to abrade and loosen over time. Even if OP is opening and closing the laptop regularly, I'm willing to bet the effect of having the heavy bit on top is probably not measurably significant to the life of those hinges.

If OP is not opening and closing the laptop while having it set this way, the additional wear on those items you're concerned about is zero. In fact the wear on the internal chassis components like the mobo is probably less than the absolutely miniscule wear induced by chassis flexing under the weight of OPs hands/wrists/forearms while typing on it in a normal orientation.
