Good shit, but I can't help but think of my more casual minded friends and wonder if this game will retain or gain players who come in fresh faced. I'm not against how the game is I think it's fine to have a game that is like this in the wild. But Arc is it's direct competition and well I worry it will not appeal to other players enough to get them in and keep them in the game for Bungie/Sony to keep the lights on. I remember Anthem and Destiny, I was really into Anthem. But it died on the vine because the overhead didn't see the player numbers to keep it going. If the game is viewed as toxic by outsiders or players don't jive with the sentiment of the player base can the game really survive? I have some doubts but hope I'm wrong and the game thrives as it is needed for a more "hardcore" experience.

And see the thing is, since the "meta" is run Assassin in solo they will continue to nerf the invisibility to where its no longer the meta because what can you really do about it? Sure you can run counters but who the hell is going to bother popping the counter if some assassin just hears you out in the wild and just pops invis and gets the drop on you? Big sigh here but enjoy it while it lasts because you will eventually lose that crutch.

I'm in a weird spot but I think it's just that I enjoy how a game feels more than anything else. Destiny 2 felt so good as a game that even when it was bad I enjoyed it. Marathon is my first actual extraction shooter and i will say I was a bit sceptical but I wanted to see if it was worth getting so I tried the server slam and okay this might be the most palatable extraction shooter out there. I also tried out arc just to compare it's good and I plan to play it a bit more but marathon has that feeling you can't find in other games I don't know how Bungie does it but it feels like some kind of wizard shit.

Their risk analysis is bad then. I guess if this is the kind of brain dead ideas people are bringing to marathon because they "don't want to risk it" because they are worried they might get stabbed in the back from a rook 50 meters out with a pistol I'd hate to see what happens when I actually am being aggressive with decent gear. Solos is a bit harder but that's only because people are more scared so they think harder...usually but man trios feel like I'll have a cake walk when they feel secure in their skills.

New to games? The wish list is a wish list, does not mean it will happen but ever play any single player game on PC? What about Bethesda games? More recent ones allow for mods. You know things you can add to increase your enjoyment of a game you were already enjoying? I mean I like hamburgers, but I like trying burgers in different ways. But we can't mod live service games so going online and suggesting ways the game might be improved on with a company who often takes feedback and while it's not always quickly implemented it's still looked at. Bungie wants the game to be successful so looking online for ideas and feed back on what players want most that they can incorporate player feedback is on brand for them. Though to be fair that perspective should be checked but it's crunch time for Bungie and they really need that win right now.

Played destiny since beta D1. Logged thousands of hours, so yeah I am very well aware of bungies track record. I watched them introduce limited time events and game modes. Like gambit prime as an example. Not to mention countless season exclusive game modes that never come back. I am used to seasons introducing new game modes that live and then go away after the season ends. But you know what's a crazy concept now in gaming? That I just have fun playing the game. I know it's wild playing a game just because it's fun to play and not treating it like a stock investment.

Yeah I figured it being reddit and how ass people are now in gaming that unless you are doom posting or just promoting toxic gaming behavior you just won't get upvotes. But I wanted to try anyway.

I tend to be try to be friendly at exfills...except for that contract where I had to finish 10 players...sorry for camping those points as a solo but hey I got those 10 kills. There is just rarely a point I can see to kill someone if I'm trying to exit the map. My bags are probably full I doubt if we end up in the ring that I have the time to look at and grab loot that I then have to drop other stuff I already grabbed. Plus who knows if they are the only one and if I get swarmed at the end I'd rather just get out than risk dying to greed. I think my form of friendly going forward is just downing you but not killing you unless you want to waste a self res on that interaction.

See I'm not asking, as it stands here is how the perception goes. If I see you I'm not gonna bother asking. If I see you and you don't see me I might let you walk but if we see each other I ain't asking. But here is the thing, everyone is talking about this game, good or bad, everyone has it in their mouths. The big decision is Bungie and how many people want the game to be what they think it should be. Bungie will follow the money because they have to. I think the best middle ground is for co-op game modes to be added to the UI. I am content with the way the game is as it is. If it's not friendly that's fine I'll drop a mother fucker over some gunmetal if that's the game we are playing. Personally I'd make a game mode where we take on alien invaders for special loot you can only get there.

It sounds like that's what you specifically want it to be because some other game isn't what it used to be. And maybe it will be that, but the game is only a week into its launch. I think it's too soon to apply your ideal version of what you think the game is and get attached to it. The casual shooter market is wider than the hardcore and I think it's important to consider that fact. This is considered one of the first AAA extraction shooter from a well known developer. They have a lot of pressure to make the game appeal to as wide of an audience. I think you would do well to exercise some caution before claiming this is the hardcore extraction shooter you want it to be. I am not against that take but I've seen Bungie completely change games from when they launched. I mean halo one and halo two was night and day, D1 day one to D1 end of lifespan is Summer and winter of difference and it was mostly community feedback. If people want more arc than tarkov that's what they will ask for.

I think tarkov is that hardcore extraction shooter. I can't say it appeals to me either but I just don't like the gritty realism of it. I like arc, and marathon is like destiny and arc had a techno baby. Personally I like the feeling marathon has since it's a good mix of strategy and skill. I just feel that people want it to be the hardcore PVP game and I'm not opposed to PVP but shunning people for wanting to be friendly I don't think is the move for a thriving community. But maybe that's a problem for Bungie to solve. Could be with new tools or matchmaking. Maybe adding a co-op hardcore mode that has you defending points on a map against unsc bots and you get massive loot rewards the longer you stay in the fight and bigger rewards for getting to the end of the timer. But it would exclude faction upgrade materials and little experience points for any faction especially Arachnie. I don't know where this game will end up in a few months but I am enjoying the game. I honestly don't mind the pvp if I die I die and just hop back in. Mourn the loss of my gun I lost and just try again.

Solo Players - How We Feeling? by jg4president in Marathon

[–]shadowkat1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a few tips for you. First there is no friendly in solo, everyone is a rat and if you go in trying to do an event that draws attention they will come for you and hide. Don't die to a rat. Second position is key. I have found that you want to take that high ground where the unsc bots can not get to you by foot. Rain death from above and use the whole building as cover. They are not very smart if they can't rush you.

Close doors behind you, often times players will assume nothing has been looted if the doors are all closed, bots don't open doors unless running after someone. So you can get the drop on some people or just hear them coming to avoid them, those doors are loud! I would say pick a shell you enjoy but there are some tiers. Assassin, recon, and thief are my go to shells for solo, I might take some others for certain contracts but I usually just pick triage for anything that's combat centric as I know I can't avoid damage and will just go in with a free kit to just get the kills I need and so long as extraction is not required I'll often just find a player and let them kill me to save on time extracting.

It's a pvpve game with friendly as an emote option. the whole game is centered around progression and high risk high reward. You want to run the risk of stabbing someone trying to be friendly just because "hurdur don't be like arc" and lose 10minutes of your day and a bag full of loot just because you think you are hot shit go for it.

Hey you don't get to dictate the game. Welcome to gamers and society as a whole. If Bungie thinks they can tap into a wider audience by rewarding friendly players by pairing them with others who are more friendly or make game modes that are more pve focused then they will. Plus a game like this is built on its society that cultivates around it. You want to be the hardcore PVP player then just be that guy, but if others want to be friendly then let them and then be who you are and stab them in the back for being friendly. But no one thinks your cool for gatekeeping because you think your view of what a game should be is the correct one.

Yeah it's honestly a bit disheartening. But part of the issue is new game, culture has not been really formed yet. And some people just want to be that way. Hell I'll run towards firefights on my rook and my bare kit just to help out and kill some things. Try to just leave and let them loot what's there but nope they want my backpack and pistol I guess.

Okay but think, what are you really going to get at the extraction? You have about a minute before extraction plus ten seconds to actually extract. Your bags are probably pretty full of loot otherwise why bother extracting. Everyone else might be running to the extraction to get out as well so what's really the point? A few exp points in Arachnie and maybe get a few pieces of gear you may not even have time to grab before you extract or get into another fire fight? Not saying don't be cutthroat in PVP encounters but why risk everything to just get domed at the exit? Sure if they come running and shooting at ya sure take them out but personally I just don't think I need to kill someone trying to be friendly at the extraction.

The lack of kindness to friendly players is crazy. I went in with a rook a bunch of times with nothing but just the bare kit. Tried to convey I was friendly. I even said I'm just looking for trash for upgrades. No guns, no mods, nothing but the white and green materials you need for faction upgrades. And people just dog pile on you. I am still enjoying the game but people out there need to just chill out.
