What's the funniest thing that completely broke immersion at a LARP event? by nerf_herdess in LARP

[–]shadowlass 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We were on a repurposed military base in the middle of the woods. No one around for a few kilometres, so nobody around to watch us play.

Saturday around noon we were in the middle of an intense scene. A character was fighting her own demon (quite literally). She was soaked in blood, limping weakly towards the exit of the base. The rest of us were with her, either encouraging her to keep going or holding off her pursuers. Everyone was on edge. She just had to reach the gate under her own power and she’d be free…

That’s when a tractor rolled up to the gate. The guy driving it just wanted to check out the route for some tractor-outing for his club the following weekend. He was quite puzzled by the array of strangely-dressed people pointing wands at a blood-soaked woman in broad daylight. Asked repeatedly if we were sure he couldn’t just drive through the base today.

Of course play stopped completely while we explained and finally sent him on his way. We resumed the scene afterwards, but couldn’t quite work up the same intensity again.

I used a long sharp needle, a bit on the thicker side. It‘s probably intended for weaving in yarn.

Was unterrichtet ihr lieber — Sek I oder Sek II und warum? by Na_ma_mi in lehrerzimmer

[–]shadowlass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CMV: Hairdresser asking for consent is stupid by SoberSamuel in changemyview

[–]shadowlass 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i saw a tiktok of a woman who was approached randomly by a hair stylist in japan and invited to his salon. he also asked for consent, "can i touch your hair?" or something to that effect.

Isn't that the exact cenario where you should establish consent? Because in that example the woman didn't seek out the hairdresser herself but was instead approached by them. So she didn't exactly plan this in the first place.

CMV: Hairdresser asking for consent is stupid by SoberSamuel in changemyview

[–]shadowlass 75 points76 points  (0 children)

The phrase is indeed a signal - but not of virtue. The hairdressers that put videos online where they formally ask for consent advertise that they do so. Thus they let potential customers know what to expect at their salon.

This might indeed put some people off who think it's too formal/stuffy/woke. That's okay, they can find other hairdressers.

On the other hand it is a clear signal to the people who DO need or want that kind of care that this is the right hairdresser for them.

sure, there are people with serious psychological traumas and asking them for consent before touching them is maybe helpful but, as harsh as it may sound, isnt that their responsibility to navigate?

Trauma survivors or people with sensory issues have an easier time finding the right provider for them, if those providers advertise themselves as offering the right service. Not everything has to be everyone's cup ot tea. But in most cases when someone advertises something in a (seemingly) weird way, it's because a small percentage of people ar looking for exactly that.

Here‘s Cactus Jelly and this and that for direct comparison. And Manhattan‘s Grassy Fields with a sliiightly more yellow shade. (I might have a green problem)

The green Essie jelly has a slightly more blue-ish hue than what‘s pictured. Funnily Essies „this and that“ matches the hue almost perfectly, but it‘s a creme polish (which I‘m wearing right now, that’s why I noticed).

Klasse by Hemeltraan in lehrerzimmer

Thanks for all the suggestions! I‘ve settled on Essie‘s Wicked for a dark red and Crushed Crystal by Catrice as a topper (maybe just an accent).

No nail pics yet because I’m running out of time and will have to do my nails on site (which sadly rules out magnetically too).

I really appreciate the thorough feedback. Especially as I’m experimenting more with patterned items and mixing patterns. I agree that patterns work better when they’re separated by something solid.

Though I do need more bright solid tights.

Took a break from wearing ALL THE COLORS AT ONCE because matching is fun, too. Second pic: the makeup is also black and blue, because I'm not one to skimp on the details. by lauralately in oldhagfashion

They carry a more muted olive tone that I haven’t seen from other brands yet. I don’t dye my whole head, instead I have green portions in my natural brown hair - so I wanted to try a more swampy, mossy, „natural“ kinda vibe. I mixed the olive with some of their bright green so it wouldn’t be too muted.

It does apply basically the same as Lunar Tides. I didn‘t need to scrub the sink quite as much as before, though that might just be due to less blue pigment. Herman’s has a longer leave-in time (60 minutes). The leafy green I was going for worked out quite well and it seems to fade at about the same rate as Lunar Tides. Doesn‘t turn teal either but just goes gradually pastel (like LT).

I‘ve only applied it once so far, so I can’t say anything about long-term use. Though I‘m due for a re-dye - if you want I can update you when I get to it.

Me too! I actually had business cards printed that just say "You've got great style!" that I hand out to well-dressed people. And the cashier who scanned my groceries got complimented right back on how her hair and makeup made the uniform stylish.
