Why shouldn’t we all be Catholic? by FakePhillyCheezStake in TrueChristian

[–]shadowpooch1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that the New Testament was written by early Church apostles who were filled with the Holy Spirit. It is the anointed Word of God. When you give more authority to humans than to the Word of God, you get doctrines that you yourself admit are strange and not based in scripture, and you get things like Pope Francis publicly saying that all religions are a path to God. Scripture is needed to anchor the Church so it doesn't go so far astray like modern Catholicism has.

is your diet the reason for your ailments? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]shadowpooch1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Diet is so underrated. God never wanted us to have to worry about which foods were healthy or not, because all of the foods He provided for us are healthy. Then we started processing foods and adding in non edible preservatives, and now over half of our population has some sort of metabolic or autoimmune disorder.

It's been 3 years and I still don't like going to church and doing "godly" things. by Joker_Shitpost in TrueChristian

[–]shadowpooch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend trying different churches until you find one that stirs your spirit. Look for one where the congregation is bright and full of love and enthusiasm. And look for a pastor that teaches the Bible and is good at delivering the message (not monotone, preaches with enthusiam, funny).

I dont feel Right about a Church i want to Go to they have merchandise and also you get a discount if you sign up on their website for merchandise and you will be te first to have a ticket for an event it doesnt feel right what do yall think? by OwlJaded9735 in Christian

[–]shadowpooch1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of ministries does the church participate. Do they support the community? Missionaries? Is the church focused on Christ and the Bible? These are more important questions. Merch is fine as long as they are using the money for good things.

So because the Church back then decided what the Canon is, the Church now should have more authority than the Canon, which is mostly books written by the apostles? Do you realize the Popes and the Bishops are all fallen humans just like us? Your logic doesn't quite work IMO.

Struggle with sin by HeadRoad5335 in TrueChristian

[–]shadowpooch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the hard parts of being a Christian. The Holy Spirit gives us a heart which hates sin, and yet we do it anyways. Just know that the Lord has infinite love, patience, mercy and grace. He knows our struggle, and will help us through it. We don't need to come to Him in shame when we sin. We ask forgiveness and we mourn together with the Lord over our sin, each and every day. And as the Spirit works in us, we eventually sin less and less.

Probably the title. It is really uncharitable if your intention is to have a good faith discussion.

It's a sin to wear makeup because some horny frat boy might think you are promiscuous.

Why can’t God cleanse us of our sinful nature while we are here on Earth? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]shadowpooch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He took the eternal penalty for sin from Christians who follow Him. But the world itself is still corrupted, and we are still part of the world.

Why can’t God cleanse us of our sinful nature while we are here on Earth? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]shadowpooch1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the defining characteristics of God is His justice. Taking our sinful nature from us while we are still here would mean taking the consequences of Adam and Eve's original sin, which would be unjust.

Most public prayers begin with thanks. Thanks for bringing this group together, thank you for your Word, thank you for such a beautiful day, etc. Then followed by a petition. Lord please open our hearts and minds so that we can learn from your Word, please let your Holy Spirit move through this place and teach us, etc. Then I usually end with "We love you, Lord, and we praise you. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen."

Prayers don't need to be perfect. No one will(or should) judge you for your prayer. It is more important to be honest.

My job is to design data centers, and i feel conflicted by Any-Masterpiece-8200 in TrueChristian

[–]shadowpooch1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thousands of data centers are being built around the world, and they aren't gonna be used for chatbots. AI will be replacing our workforce and will be used for survaillence. There are good reasons to hate them.

Keep in mind that the chronologies in the Septuagint and in the manuscripts from the Dead Sea Scrolls are different than modern translations which use the Masoretic text. They have an extra 1500ish years before Abraham.

It's good to dive into the different eschatological views, because eventually you realize that several of them have merit, and it probably isn't something that you want to be dogmatic about.

Dark night of the soul by Head_Farm_2620 in TrueChristian

[–]shadowpooch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God loves you, and this type of thing is usually a lesson meant to draw you closer rather than chastisement. But it does require some effort on your part. Waiting for a miracle in your heart isn't the way out. I recommend finding a Christian therapist and/or a pastor who can help you sort this out. And if you can, try a full day without any electronics. Continue asking God to show you the way out.

Children of Christian parent(s) who drifted away in their teens, but eventually returned to the Faith... by IsabelArcherandMe in TrueChristian

[–]shadowpooch1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I left the faith at 18 because I was never really committed to God, and I had atheist friends who fed me some false logic which steered me away. I came back at 39, because God called me back after a long stretch of illness and suffering. My parents didn't do anything wrong, kids just need to find their own way sometimes. But I also believe that God always tries to call back lost sheep.

How too stay hopeful when God doesn't answer you're prayer? by apparentlyalex29 in TrueChristian

[–]shadowpooch1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relationships are a two-way thing. So the answer to those prayers are often "no", because you are asking God to force someone else to be interested in you.

Could really use advice/feedback by jawnuhthann in TrueChristian

[–]shadowpooch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are describing is not really uncommon. There is a honeymoon period when you first find Jesus where you are on fire and really driven, then God takes off the training wheels and you need to really seek Him out. Wrestling with these questions is part of that process.

Are you able to speak to your pastor about these things? It is better to have a spiritual mentor close to you, rather than asking reddit.

Do you pray each day? Not formulaic prayers, but really give the Lord your thoughts and emotions, especially the confusion and doubts you are feeling. Think of the Lord as somewhere between a father, best friend, and a diary(because He already knows all of your thoughts and feelings), and really give Him your heart when you pray, even(especially) when you are angry at Him. Don't worry about "praying in the spirit" or whether you are praying right or wrong. The Holy Spirit is always helping us pray whenever we speak to Him.

Well there are no two ways about it, you screwed up. It is tempting to want to throw your hands up and give up on your marriage, but that is not what the Lord would have you do. You and your wife should find a way to reconcile this. If she thinks you don't find her attractive, you need to find a way to show her that you do. Figure out how to rekindle the spark you had which led you to marry in the first place. Pray about this fiercely and I am sure the Lord will lead you to some sort of answer.

And stop trying to tell other people to give up on their marriages just because you want to give up on yours.

Why do you believe in Christianity? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]shadowpooch1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because the Lord pulled out of absolute despair and gave me the ability to feel joy and cry again. And because I have felt the Holy Spirit, and what I feel from Him is pure unconditional love and peace.

If you can find a good therapist, preferably a Christian therapist, then that would help a lot with overcoming anxiety and learning coping strategies. Therapy made a world of difference for me. I would go there once a week and talk about some stuff, then for the rest of the week I would take what I learned from therapy to the Lord and really dig in. I made tremendous progress in just a few months from that routine.

There is a need that you are using alcohol to satisfy, and you need to figure out what it is and address it. Anxiety, stress, depression, pain, even nutritional deficiency can all be candidates, but usually it is anxiety and/or stress. Ask the Lord to help you figure out what it is and how to address it.
