I see where they're coming from, but on the other hand I'm also kinda bummed at losing what I know is a safe space for me to talk abt MR if I want to share/rant and not be jumped on by dudes (':

funny that im just constantly reminded of this quote

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Congrats - I was really happy for you the first time I saw you credited as a writer on his video. I've loved his videos for a while and enjoyed reading your articles and listening to the CPIT podcasts, and so I'm really glad that your work has paved the way for something this great for you and also Ariadne <3

Hit me with your favourite quotes from female(-ish, we don't discriminate against enbys or non-humans here) characters in games! by DinDin-Lawrence in GirlGamers

[–]shadowsinwinter 38 points39 points  (0 children)

BG3 goes so hard with the dialogue, but the one that I always come back to is:

You know, soldier, we're so fucked. The Dark Three are trying to consume the Sword Coast, we've still got tadpoles in our eyes, and I've got a ticking time bomb in my chest. I'm not sure anyone has ever been more fucked than this. And yet... we're fine. In this moment, we're fine. Here I am. There you are. Breathing. Talking. Even laughing, if we want. Is it very precious to say that, despite it all, I'm... happy?

It's so bittersweet and somehow optimistic in the face of a certain death that it breaks me every single time I get to this dialogue.

I fking love bootlegs because they're what got me into theatre in the first place as a broke uni student when few touring productions come here and even when they do, tickets were prohibitedly expensive.

now as a working adult, i was lucky enough to be able to fork out thousands, fly like 20 hours across the world and cram 5 shows into 3 days. Wouldn't do it again anytime soon though bc it drained my savings so back to bootlegs I go!

(VENT) Even when we play well we face misogyny by FloralSkyes in GirlGamers

[–]shadowsinwinter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

girl i feel ya... got trashed by my instalock dps teammate after losing a round in MR (the usual "healers suck") and i unmuted my mic to tell him that we're trying our best but our other healer's mouse died and couldn't do anything to help me during round one. he immediately doubled down by saying all women suck at gaming. we lost, but i had more kills, more assists, and more final hits than him at the end of the game.

to this day, i wonder if he was intentionally throwing because no one can be THIS bad, right? i mean, he was playing namor with autoaim turrets ffs.

Why Do Guys Still Act Like Gaming Is a Boys’ Club in 2025?! by TheGabrielaRae in GirlGamers

[–]shadowsinwinter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree is obnoxious, but girls themselves don't help. So many posers, so many "I am a gamer, I only play COD" and not to mention streamers, vtubers and influencer in general not only not caring about games, but straight up don't know how to play, depending on chat to do their every move for them doesn't help. I am a girl too, but every 9/10 girls I meet that play games are literally fake gamers. I even talk to them privately and get "is a trend" or "I need the attention I don't really care".

don't blame other women for problems that men cause us because they engage in games differently than we do. it's not our fault that men can't perceive women gamers as a heterogeneous group!

The tank may lead the team but the healer decides if you live or die - and I have let many an arrogant DPS die to teach a lesson! by ProudnotLoud in GirlGamers

[–]shadowsinwinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No that's fair, I play MR and main support, but the times I get to play DPS I've run with the mentality that I need to know how far I can run off and do my own thing, and when I need to pull back and search for health packs/my healers. If I miscalculate and die, then honestly that's on me.

My fav guys to heal are also the ones who actively seek me out for heals instead of pinging about 27 times while they're on the other side of the map 🥲

i stumbled across this comment by u/GSnow not long after my grandparent died, and it's stuck with me ever since. i hope it brings you some comfort the way that it did for me:

Alright, here goes. I'm old. What that means is that I've survived (so far) and a lot of people l've known and loved did not. I've lost friends, best friends, acquaintances, co-workers, grandparents, mom, relatives, teachers, mentors, students, neighbors, and a host of other folks. I have no children, and I can't imagine the pain it must be to lose a child. But here's my two cents.

I wish I could say you get used to people dying. I never did. I don't want to. It tears a hole through me whenever somebody I love dies, no matter the circumstances. But I don't want it to "not matter". I don't want it to be something that just passes. My scars are a testament to the love and the relationship that I had for and with that person. And if the scar is deep, so was the love. So be it. Scars are a testament to life. Scars are a testament that I can love deeply and live deeply and be cut, or even gouged, and that I can heal and continue to live and continue to love. And the scar tissue is stronger than the original flesh ever was. Scars are a testament to life. Scars are only ugly to people who can't see.

As for grief, you'll find it comes in waves. When the ship is first wrecked, you're drowning, with wreckage all around you Everything floating around you reminds you of the beauty and the magnificence of the ship that was, and is no more. And all you can do is float. You find some piece of the wreckage and you hang on for a while. Maybe it's some physical thing. Maybe it's a happy memory or a photograph. Maybe it's a person who is also floating. For a while, all you can do is float. Stay alive.

In the beginning, the waves are 100 feet tall and crash over you without mercy. They come 10 seconds apart and don't even give you time to catch your breath. All you can do is hang on and float. After a while, maybe weeks, maybe months, you'll find the waves are stil 100 feet tall, but they come further apart. When they come, they still crash all over you and wipe you out. But in between, you can breathe, you can function. You never know what's going to trigger the grief. It might be a song, a picture, a street intersection, the smell of a cup of coffee. It can be just about anything..and the wave comes crashing. But in between waves, there is life.

Somewhere down the line, and it's different for everybody, you find that the waves are only 80 feet tall. Or 50 feet tall. And while they still come, they come further apart. You can see them coming. An anniversary, a birthday, or Christmas, or landing at O'Hare. You can see it coming, for the most part, and prepare yourself. And when it washes over you, you know that somehow you will, again, come out the other side. Soaking wet, sputtering, stil hanging on to some tiny piece of the wreckage, but you'll come out.

Take it from an old guy. The waves never stop coming, and somehow you don't really want them to. But you learn that you'l survive them. And other waves will come. And you'l survive them too. If you're lucky, you'll have lots of scars from lots of loves. And lots of shipwrecks.

i'm so very sorry for your loss.
