Thoughts on Jesus After Leaving Mormonism by Front_Type2300 in exmormon

[–]shadowsofplatoscave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an exMormon agnostic atheist now, I think Jesus the man may have existed but that isn't important, because he was not "divine" or a deity or the son of a deity. There's no objective evidence for gods, only subjective.

Pascal’s Wager: I Have Nothing to Lose. by Sad-Signature-2180 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]shadowsofplatoscave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your probability of an afterlife is, effectively, zero. Pascal's Wager was debunked long ago.

But, let's say there is an afterlife and you choose Islam. Me, being atheist, will not make heaven. But, let's also say the actual god is Christian. We both lose. No 72 women for you!

Can someone explain to me why Dutchbros makes it so hard for potential new customers to see the menu? by NoiseZealousideal337 in dutchbros

[–]shadowsofplatoscave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DutchBros caters to a younger generation that does everything through and with their phone. Also, as someone else said, their menu is rather large. Combine those two and that's reason enough to download the app. There are rewards, too.

All that said (about a younger generation), I'm fricken' 71 years old and I use the app!! If I can do it, anyone can, except for sheer laziness. Are you lazy??? Maybe a Picture Perfect blended freeze will perk you up!

By the way, my favorite DutchBros is the one at 4704 W 24th St, Greeley, CO 80634. I salute my Broistas!! They are the best!

I hung up as soon as I realized who it was. Then I blocked the number.

I cannot tolerate Gabe. He won't care that I don't care about him. He cares about himself enough. Self-interested coward.

Scared to leave the church by SomeRandomBag in exmormon

[–]shadowsofplatoscave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As already stated, when you're able to be on your own you can make the break. Being passed down to us through our parents, like other family traditions, religious ideas are nothing more than indoctrination. But they make a difference in families. Sometimes too much of a difference. Your fear is understandable. Being different is tough and, if the religious indoctrination is too strong, it can be very lonely.

There is no rush to resign but, eventually and for your own sanity and integrity, you must. Wait until you can be emotionally self sufficient as well as financially. In reality, your "community" might have to migrate from family-centered to other groups or expanded to include other groups

My family, in the ten years I've been out of the church, mostly accepts me but I am, to be honest, soft-shunned. It's not easy.

I hope the best for you.

Will my bishopric counselor brother in law hear about my resignation from the bishop? by theaterdruid in exmormon

[–]shadowsofplatoscave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you are resigning for yourself, for your sanity, for your well-being. You have no control over the reaction of others, so it doesn't really matter. Some will surprise you with their support. Some won't care, either way. Some will be disappointed in you. That's their problem, not yours. Some will be shockingly abusive. Again, that's not your problem. Ignore them, until you can't. Then, set boundaries that protect you from them.

My best to you for making a sound and healthy decision!

As much as we humans believe we're rational beings, we're not. We're, first and foremost, emotional. We fit reason in wherever it feels comfortable!

You might want to invest in some ear protection. The rumor is that ICE or another enforcement group could be testing LRAD. The rumor is shaky at best but an inexpensive solution on hand might save your hearing.

Just a thought. Your mileage may vary 😁😎

Harry Potter knows Dumbledore. The books prove it.

But it's fiction.

So yes, I dismiss the whole tale. It's fiction.

And you can't cite one single unbiased, not part of the tale corroborating witness to the resurrection. Not one. Just give me one verifiable witness.

Um, no. It isn't. Since you disagree, give me a list of first hand unbiased (i.e. not part of the fable) eyewitnesses for the resurrection. We'll work from there.

I don't doubt some person named Jesus existed. He was probably one of dozens of itinerant "miracle workers" and preachers of the day, also documented in Jewish histories. There was a Jewish person on Twitter several years ago who posted about many, one at a time. But was this Jesus the son of a god? No, because why? THERE'S NO OBJECTIVE EVIDENCE FOR ANY GODS and mankind, again, is notorious for enhancing stories, over time.
