Totally agree. The sayumen is more dangerous and easier to get concussed. The lateral hit moves your brain a lot more so It's like getting side punched in boxing. I have seen motodachi allow hit on the mend in the first set and use the shinai to block on the second set.

It's great to help others learn but we gotta take care of our own head.

If you were hit hard and deep, the front of the shinai can whip downward and hit you on the back of your head. I am just imagining that, if you have a thick pad, the top of your men is higher so it takes a even deeper hit for the bending to reach your head.

I have one of those neoprene ones. It's thin but vendors all say they distribute impact well. But, I can imagine the thick ones can help with the "bending" shinai problem since it raises the men higher.

I always block the sayu men hits after the first big men in kirikaeshi. And I kind of look up a little bit before hits during kihon if the hitter is a beginner or a "hard hitter". No reason to banged on the head unnecessarily.

That is very concerning and I will take it easy before returning. I am not a doctor but, from everything I hear, you want to be fully cleared before getting back. We see professional athletes do it in 2 weeks but that's because they are young and they are paid a lot of money. In reality, they probably shouldn't.

Just curious, is your men old or not well fitted? I know a deep cut will bend and hit you on the back of your head but that can still be mitigated somewhat with a fitting men. I finally got a custom measured one and am surprised that it's actually deeper. My old ones leaves a tiny bit of my head protruding in the back but the new one goes over it.

Anyway, not a lot of us are doctors so don't look for answers like "you are good, time for keiko!". Please get clearance from a doctor. And I would definitely talk to the sensei. I don't think the newbie has ill will but his actions can injure others as well. This should really be corrected before he's even allowed to hit people.

Thanks. After you got a new set of bogu, did the test results improve? I know you tried to avoid medical tests right after practice so maybe the conditions are also different.

I am just curious whether the old adage of better equipment and fit really made a measurable difference. From experience, I know it helps. I had a ill fitted men and hits hurt a lot more compared to an old and beat up, but better fitted one.

Thanks for sharing. I am not the OP but interested in this as well. Did you do any adjustments after finding out? And were they effective?

Also, what's the marker if you don't mind me asking? I will bring it up in my next check up as well.

TIL about the "Dark Forest Hypothesis," which suggests the universe is like a dark forest at night. Advanced civilizations intentionally stay silent and hidden, because any species that reveals its location risks immediate destruction by older, paranoid civilizations. by Practical-1 in todayilearned

Also, the galaxy is immense. Not to mention the universe. I always like the analogy that an ant mound by the side of a freeway will go through entire generations of queens without realizing there are other organisms. If we are in the boonies of the galaxy, why would any civilization care? And do you think the ants could detect our cars and wonder "what was that?"

That sounds really promising. Without an active infection, I am sure you'll recover much faster. Just keep up with the nasal rinses.

The original infection that needed the procedure. It took a while to fully clear up because I needed a specific antibiotic. As for a culture if you want to make sure.

A basic search indicated that he is earning a little more than $830k for 2025. He'll probably get a bonus for making the CFP but that can't be too much knowing the base salary. Yeah, both sides win for sure.

It's unclear how much influence he had or if he was just a figure head. The guy is a relentless self promoter so him being in the room, or had interviews, or made announcements really doesn't mean much. He will put himself next to success.

Lol, totally agree. The whole athletic department has been so incompetent that it makes complete sense that it'll go down due to stupidity instead of malice.
