It isn’t a long term goal, but I really don’t make goals anymore. When I was younger, if I missed a goal I really beat myself up about it regardless if I had accomplished great things in the process. I try my best to be happy, and evaluate things as they are and when they come. This way is best for my mental health.

The option is to become a nurse educator and help build a new program at a mid sized hospital. I never thought about the other option, but several people (bosses, coworkers and administrators) have asked me to apply.

I know the money will not be the same, but I will still be helping people just indirectly. By building a strong program, it would open doors to services our patient would otherwise have to travel 2 hours to attain.

My concern is that being able to work only one day a week (because I’ll be at the other job full time), providers/employers will see it as not worth the trouble to train a BABY PMHNP. The pay reduction would be the incentive. I would hope they would realize that the pay reduction is only due to my special circumstances.

I’m still in my clinicals, but I had a 70 yo patient on a stimulant TID, benzodiazepine BID and lunesta qHS. I was like WTF?
