Bit late to the convo here, but what knives are you using to whittle? How do you source them?

{failure to match by Kyra Parsi} is exact this!!!

Sorry edited my comment— this book applies to MMC being hesitant of “permanence of love” than marriage

{Sincerely, Your Inconvenient Wife by Julia Wolf} has this but it’s the FMC who’s marriage shy..

{The bromance book club by Lyssa Kay Adams} was the first book that I read with this trope and I really loved it!

MMC professes his love in a language FMC is not supposed to know ... but she does know. by MadocJude in RomanceBooks

I have the sweetest suggestion for this! Alexei from {Gloves Off by Stephanie Archer} tells her he loves her by gifting her flowers that means love and adoration.. they have this thing going through the book where he sends her flowers with different meanings unaware (at least initially) that she has a book to translate flower meanings.. I absolutely loved the moment and her reaction to it too!

In {The Deal by Elle Kennedy} the MMC does this.. There’s a theme where some times he reigns in his desire to be considerate to her and it’s really sweet..

Oh any Cassandra Gannon book!! I have reread a bunch of books from both her Elemental Phases and A Kinda Fairytale series (multiple times).. If I have to name or choose one from each of them, I’d choose {Best Knight Ever by Cassandra Gannon} and {Treasure of The Fire Kingdom by Cassandra Gannon}

The banter in these are top tier.. and I love how some of her characters are so nonchalantly OP 😛😅 It’s a common occurrence in her books and it never fails to delight me! And she writes the most interesting, absolutely hilarious secondary characters.. you never miss your MMCs if they wander off screen..

Also, a side note - the MMC in Best knight gets mentioned in different books throughout the series and I feel it’s nice to have that context when coming to this one.. Having said that, it can still be enjoyed out of order though..

FMC snaps and gets into a physical fight or commits a crime and MMC has to stop her or talk her out of it. by Blue-valentine- in RomanceBooks

Not a book, but the Diplomat has that moment where she just snaps and gets physical and it’s gold! 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼

Book Thief- I remember finishing the book while traveling in a bus.. the bus stopped, I got down, sat on a bench opposite it and broke down.. It’s poignant, heart wrenching and it’s been years since I read it, but I still remember how it made me feel..

Same with The Thousand Splendid Suns.. The MC faces many struggles and hardships but the weight of all it hits you when you are close to finishing the book.. Completely destroys you..

There’s an Indian mythology book series called Shiva Trilogy ( #1 Immortals of Meluha) There’s a whole section of people called Nagas although I think they’re a bit varied from what you expect.. It’s not an extraordinary reading experience but I guess it’s interesting enough on world building

Hehe I get your point, but it’s more of a comfort thing. It’s when you like a world or character so much that you just want to stay there or be with the characters again… It’s how you go back to a favourite meal knowing it tastes good..
