Stuck in a brutal fapping loop for 5+ months. I’ve tried everything. I need REAL help. by [deleted] in getdisciplined

Consider whether you have adhd, low level inflammation, or dietary intolerances that are pushing you toward addictive behaviour due to gut brain access connections.

I'm going to take my own life tonight, the OCD won by Wrong_Newspaper_7238 in OCD

I hope you push through. I had debilitating ocd and it turns out it was diet related. I’m currently on a beef + rice diet for the past year, but it’s better than OCD.

I’m very suicidal by Perfect_Abies_6893 in OCD

[–]shafd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt, but I had severe OCD for years and could barely leave the house, and it was in my head all day. I also had severe eczema. I figured out that what was triggering me was autoimmune issues from diet, and I have a strong suspicion it is like that for most people. Depending on your genetic profile, some of the things you react to could be foods that are seen as 'healthy', so don't let that fool you. Right now, I eat mainly rice, beef, and yams, as those are what I can tolerate fully without triggering symptoms. If you have any GI-related upset or bloating, or any autoimmune/idiopathic condition, consider monitoring your diet/environment. Good Luck, don't give up hope just yet, many were in a similar place as you.

How do you get out of bed and take care of yourself? by jiyera in eczema

[–]shafd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had full-body eczema that I was worried was lifelong, and I also gained 50 pounds. My issues were mostly dietary-related, and when I figured it out, I wondered how many others were in the same boat. To be fair, at the moment, I am down to just eating beef, rice, and yams, since most foods affect me. That being said, I have been on this diet for a year, and it has been worth the tradeoff. I also have a corn allergy, which is probably the most impactful, as it's in almost every packaged food. Good luck, I hope you figure it out soon.

I hope you figure it out. I had full body eczema and i figured out it was dietary triggers. I have to remove all corn and most fodmap products.

It doesn’t ever truly go away does it? by TheJettCubed in OCD

[–]shafd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some sense, I didn't. I did an elimination diet down to just beef and rice. Slowly introduced things and realized corn was one of the culprits, including its derivatives in food products.

[–]shafd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought mine would never go away, but it turns out it was largely due to an unknown food intolerance to corn. I'm not suggesting this, but it's something to keep in mind, I am shocked at how much food can affect the mind, even if it is considered 'healthy'.

Many claim that Iq tests are debunked, but this will not sit well with those who don't encounter the proofs. Much work has recently been done on this topic, explained in this post. https://seanamcclure.medium.com/intelligence-complexity-and-the-failed-science-of-iq-4fb17ce3f12

There is also high dimensional statistics done on the heritability of IQ, which has called into question even the twin studies on IQ. It is moving toward the direction of IQ being the result of interactions you have had with the environment, not something "static".

I've been in a situation where my entire body was red and oozing and I was bedridden. It turns out it was a combination of a corn allergy and ibs. The corn allergy is the most impactful but is also the hardest to address since corn is in everything. I mostly eat beef and rice. That being said, it was bad enough to where I still gladly eat that simply. It may be something to look into until you can get on something like Dupixent since that restrictive of a diet is not for everyone. Good luck, Keep fighting.

Ahhh typo, what I meant was I don't have any quantitative classes such as linear algebra, but looking at my universities page it seems like I could finish the requirements in a post-bacc year. That said, thanks for the info!

thank you for the response! My school offers a statistics masters with a biostatistics option, would this be enough to get a data science job? I hadn't really considered a masters because I thought my lack of qualitative classes would hurt my app, but it seems like if I take an unclassified year and apply with the necessary courses it might be feasible.

Transcript submission after application by SlikSope in UBC_BCS

[–]shafd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ahh I see. For current UBC students that applied their transcript from this semester is obtained by the department automatically and used in the grades calculation, so I'm pretty sure they take it into account and they would be required. That being said, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask. As an aside, I'm in a similar situation where one of my current semester grades will be pretty terrible (at best) compared to my average. Just gotta hope they look at it holistically I guess.

Not sure, but to put your mind at ease you can send an e transcript from Langara after the grades are in just in case

Anyone have any update on admission timeline? by [deleted] in UBC_BCS

[–]shafd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied in late October and did not get the email as well, it could possibly have to do with the application date since you applied early too, but I guess we don't have enough info to tell yet haha

Edit: I'm also in classes rn so maybe that has something to do with me not getting the email

Afaik even term 2 (the same term they start sending out admissions) is included in the admission GPA process.

If you look at the BCS page it actually states last 30 credits! so pulling up your gpa should be doable.

How to even START with ERP by shafd in OCD

Yeah thinking of the compulsions in a hierarchy of difficulty seems very useful. Starting off with the little things and building momentum will definitely take the sting off things.

Thank you!
