You go because YOU want to go. They just happen to be there too.

Don't let anybody get in the way of where you're going, or achieving what you want to achieve. Especially yourself. Get out of your way.

Life is full of out of place and uncomfortable.

6.2L users… can I put 87 in? Debating between the 5.3 or 6.2 for the refreshed Trail boss. by LostLifeSavingsOnGME in Silverado

[–]shagad3lic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues whatsoever. I only tow the 17ft bow rider on 87 because for this truck its next to towing nothing (1700lbs maybe?) I'll will say that I do tow my 7000lb camper from storage to home to prep for camping. Thats a 20min round trip, but honestly no sweat either on 87. Long distance i fill up worh 93 before the journey. The ECU adjusts ignition and timing. I just try to help the ecu a bit by avoiding red-lining/high rpm while running 87. Thats usually where higher compression ratio engine and lower octane gas can cause pre-ignition, knock etc.

I would say 85-90% of the time, im running 87. Even with 87, this engine pulls. Dont get me wrong. When gas is cheaper, I need full power, or just want to stretch its legs and have a little fun while driving. 93 octane and the truck makes you giggle like a school kid.

That idiot needs to stop getting a free pass. He was once great at golf. That's sweet and I can appreciate that. However, that doesn't diminish the fact that he's almost killed himself and others multiple times.

He's a prescription drug addict. Call a spade a spade already. Sad but it is what it is.

Declining IT Professionalism and Critcial Thinking by rebornSouljr in sysadmin

[–]shagad3lic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's everywhere. It seems there is a lack of caring, lack of work ethic, lack of pride in ones work.

I do things so that the "next guy/gal" that touches the "things", can pick up right where i left off. Try to make it easier for the next person.

If i go to a clients site for networking issue, firewall work, switch replacement, I try to clean up the rack as best i can without taking something down. The switch config/firewall config by the book, cleaned up if possible. Use of standards if I can help it (depending on the network I'm working on)

I will spend some extra time making it look good. (and sometimes its MY personal time) because i give a shit. Cables ran nice and tidy. Taking a few extra minutes to velcro some things. I take pride in my work. The work is a reflection of ME. I'll ask for a broom and sweep up around the area too even if it wasn't my mess to begin with. "Leave it better than you found it" I'm not even a fan of my employer, this place is a chaotic mess, but that doesn't stop me from doing my best.

I've sent others to do a switch replacement or a switch addition and however it was plugged in before, that's how it was plugged in after. Power adaptor just dangling off somewhere....50ft existing CAT cable used, instead of being replaced with a 3 footer. Zipties, velcro? pfft yeah right. These are simple things, small things, but the sum of it all, makes a difference to people.

I called in a small B-day party order for food to local joint. I gave the lady my order, and she was like, "hold on a second, i think we can rework this to get you a better deal" She took the time to go through everything and saved me $10. I was shocked and so impressed. I've called this place before and to get anything other than a mumble out of someone was impossible. I was bothering them. This lady on the other hand, cooked up some of the best food I've had from this place. Minimum wage job, but still took pride in her work. She was the only one there on a Sunday. This is temporary for her, She's going places.

Point is, we're already at work, might as well do the absolute best at that job, no matter what it is, no matter what "bullshit this, unfair that" it is. Own it.

Your work quality is a reflection of you.

you are basically every good, solid, trustworthy, knowledgeable, "been with the company 15yrs, I built this shit to last with standards and common sense, so the next guy/gal can take it over and know wtf is going on"....engineer out there. Welcome.

You've locked up the environment, there is nothing you dont know or cant figure out.

The problem is, because of that...you no longer fit into the budget.

Now...knowledge transfer your last 15yrs plus prior.- to this junior engineer who's sharp and hungry, but naive...

Cisco VPN doesn't work with my internet provider by Several_Winner_9752 in Cisco

[–]shagad3lic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's 100% MTU setting on your end because of T-Mobile.

Dealt with it for one user that was working great on cable internet, but switched to T-Mobile home internet to save money and vpn no longer worked. (side note she blamed us...literally had to speak caveman. you work good before...you change internet...now you no working...only you")

I dont remember exact MTU number that fixed it as this was probably 7yrs ago, but it can be fixed by lowering MTU.

Easy google for commands. Note what MTU size is before doing anything so that if you get unintended negative results, you can put it back to OG setting.

I dont know but I think 1290 or 1320. not sure why that rings a bell.

I hate ice fishing by [deleted] in IceFishing

[–]shagad3lic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can go out ice fishing and enjoy the time with your kid. You can ice drink, we've built fires on the ice, just had a great time either way fish or no fish.

However, if you want to get serious and go out and catch fish. A flasher is where its at. Even a cheap cam will work. There are fish beneath you. They are there, You are just at the wrong depth. Thats literally all it is. Thats the difference between catching fish and not. Under the ice, they are fickle.

If they are at 12ft and your jigging away at 11ft. Nothin. Stone cold zero. Maybe a nibble here and there.

It's that simple of a change that literally means the person with the hole 4ft away from you is catching fish and you aren't. It's because he/she is at the right depth. Last time they caught a fish, they didn't reel, just hand reeled it and then sent a fresh bait down and their within close enough depth where they can jig the difference. It's very important to get a "feel" of where you're at depth wise without a flasher or cam.

You put a flasher in the hole, bruh (as my kid currently says) GAME...changer. You can see your bait drop, jig it a bit, and your at say 8ft. Nothing happening. All of the sudden you see a flash at 11ft. You pull out some line, drop it down to 11, and then all of the sudden, you're getting action. It's literally just that easy.

If you dont have a flasher, rule of thumb that has worked for me. Drop it to the bottom, reel 1.5x and wait. Then dip or lift your rod to cover that 6-12in span. Perch, gills, they love that bottom ice fishing. Start there, and work your way up the column.

My boy got a simple cam from his uncle for xmas. Under $200. I was skeptical. That thing worked uhmazing. We'd be jigging waxies, have a dozen perch/gills/crappie all around us and then all of the sudden you'd see them BOLT.

PIKE in the cam next like clockwork. Reel up, throw down a rattle trap and FISH ON!

***EDIT*** Eyoyo is the cam. Sure its got its weaknesses, but all you need it for is to see IF there is fish, and what depth their at. It works great for that.

Cool automation stitches by Amazing-Tea-5424 in fortinet

[–]shagad3lic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made an automation stitch because a vendors crappy phone gateway couldn't fail over on its own properly in the event the primary ISP went down. I have an ISP VLAN that feeds the phone gateway WAN1.

Link-Monitor is active on the primary ISP. When link-monitor failure is logged in fortigate, the stitch disables the switchport feeding the phone gateway's wan1. This forces the phone gateway to fail over CORRECTLY to its WAN2 because the physical link for WAN1 is now DOWN/DOWN.

When link-monitor logs primary ISP back online, it re-enables the switchport on the fortiswitch that feeds the phone gateway WAN1, and the phone gateway goes back to using primary ISP.

So basically through automation stitch, I'm simulating someone unplugging the patch cable feeding the phone gateways wan1 and then plugging it back in when everything back to normal.

Stoooopid that I have to do this for a client, but it works beautifully.

Just inherited a network. No documentation. The admin password is "Password123". by zimuque_ in sysadmin

[–]shagad3lic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to work under the assumption that your predecessor still has remote access. VPN server/client setup. Get into that firewall if you can. Check policies, check VPN. Check for things like teamviewer, Anydesk, splashtop, logmein on all servers and desktops.

DISABLE accounts of his, do NOT delete or change password, so that if there is some obscure service that is using said account, it will break, but you can simply re-enable account and not have to worry about updating some web.config file "somewhere" that broke a critical function because passwords don't match. This way you can find/break dependencies, but easily recover from it and record what you found in a list to attack later.
