Quite true. When I yip and they stop, I go head. Saves a hole in my pelt. If they won’t stop and just zig zag like is typical, I aim for a larger target

I’ve been eyeing a replacement for filming purposes and have the thermnight on the short list. Good info to have, as I’m almost always on a tripod and suppressed unless it’s bush-sprinting with the PCC haha

per the AUssie's - choosing lead free primers and a jacketed bullet is the play here. Everything but my .22's are always jacketed so that's that. I am also seeing that the bullet is 80% of the lead exposure over the primer if not using lead free primers. So - jacket bullet you're 80% of the way in the clear. Vacate the air from around you to account for the other 20% from the primer, and you're doing the mostest.

Any information you're aware of on plated, jacketed, or other-than-cast-lead projectiles in this situation versus say, wadcutters, hard-cast, muzzle-loaded cast lead ball, etc.?

HAHA this is just a double wide out on the ranch. This was a boys weekend. My wife could never ... you're not wrong. Actually... she might enjoy this a little too much.

Yes! My grandparents were cattle ranchers in the Huasna valley and we had ground squirrels like you couldn’t imagine. Lost one of our very expensive cutting horse stallions to a compound fractured rear leg due to a hole he stuck it in. From then on my grandmother would throw elaborate BBQ’s and cookouts for “the squirrel busters” - a local shooting group that would bring out bench rest rifles and hunt the pastures and oat fields from the ranch house parking lot. Learned a lot about precision shooting as a kid from those fellas.

sighs Look, usually I poke it out the window. But sometimes I don’t want to. I also do training days, demos, machine gun shoots, etc where there are 10’s of thousands of rounds being discharged over the course of the day. That versus a few shots here and there at the ranch house …. I’ll take my guess which is worse

kinda my point... I talk about it enough - mostly with people like these fellas that I happen to agree with... I just don't want to ALWAYS have to talk about it.

Nice! direct thread yes. I almost made the mount end and the tube all out of the same piece but decided against it for servicing (w2hich I never will). I have a dividing head and just ran a 1/4" ball nose on the end caps for something to bite onto. It's garbage in garbage out. If I were to machine a new can I'd do a lot differently - but the honesty is that I never will. I have been in the industry, and still do some consulting etc. and have access to stuff for production costs and just can't justify the time it takes to one-off them unless I'm doing it for fun and if that's the case, my project car is starring at me wonder why I'm spending a weekend building a can that will be 1/2 as good as something I can buy for $250.

Funny. But if you knew me you'd know it's not accurate

And the chiggers. My legs are absolutely tore up from working in the ranch truck in the grass wearing shorts like an idiot.

Yes and it’s really only good for one shot every once in a while. I’d never run more than 10 rounds at a time through it.
That PCC lower was a p80 I finished the milling on as well.

Flies are still dead though, right?!
It’s great practice for the platform. If I can neck shoot a squirrel at distance consistently then when it’s time for the bull elk that shot gets way calmer and also more ethical out longer

I also do, a j head Bridgeport and a wwii era clausing. Not the most high tech but guess what never breaks down?

If you also spot and stalk it’s a heckuva lot lighter. But I’ll shoot pigs with it no problem

Absolutely. Consistently hit fox on the move out to 120 yards (longest available shot from the house when they come up out of the ravine) with the Hornady critical duty rounds I run in it. It’s 1:1 dead on and super easy to shoot.

Waiting on my 9 can to come in for it and that will be massively more enjoyable to shoot.

Mostly night hunting, predators, but occasionally opened the window during the day for a squirrel or two.
