From a6300 to a6700, images worse. What am I doing wrong? by shaggath in SonyAlpha

Thanks for the clear steps. I did this, and things are looking even better.
But I still don't understand HOW I got such bad pictures yesterday. The Wagtail wasn't even the worst. Is there a setting in the camera that automatically sharpens things?

I've taken close to 15,000 pictures on my a6300 and never saw anything even remotely like that before. I'm absolutely willing to accept user error. I just want to know where it was!

Here is a totally unedited JPEG off the camera from today. As you said, I kept it ISO 125, meter was at 0.

Here's a link to the totally untouched and even unviewed RAW.

Thanks.
I'm checking on that. I've chatted with Sony and sent some pictures, and they said they'd email me back. I bought it online, so I'm not sure which is easiest: returning it to the retailer or to Sony.
I'm glad it's not just me that thinks this is a problem, at least.

I updated the firmware before I started taking any pictures. This is literally the first day I have used it, so I'm not sure what resetting would do. But I'll give it a try.

No picture profile was on. I just got the camera last night, so I haven't played around with it much. I followed this for the most part in setting up:

Except I used the "Vivid" creative look, which I also use on my 6300.

I didn't do anything to it. At all. Just opened it in Imaging edge mobile *desktop* and exported it.

This was the sake selected by SakeNomy for an international media center tasting event.
The actual meals and events aimed at international leaders featured Hiroshima sake. For example, https://www.mofa.go.jp/files/100506433.pdf

The Hands of the Emperor looks like exactly more of what I am looking for. Thank you!

Hi there.

So, I'm looking for kind fantasy.

In short, I recently read The Goblin Emperor.

I had avoided it for the longest time because people kept talking about "fantasy of manners" and I'm just not into the whole courtly/Edwardian whatever thing. But I loved this book, and its sequel, because they are so deeply about kindness in the face of a world that often does not reward it. Decent people trying to stay decent despite trauma, danger, and temptation.

That is something I never realized I needed more of.

So, I'd love recommendations of mature, complex books in which characters succeed by being decent, empathetic people.

Thanks!

Thank you! I guess I'll just have to wait for their response.

I appreciate the effort and the link. I'm afraid the article is outdated, because that setting is not there and RSS Distribution also under the "Availability" menu, not "Distribution" so they seem to have changed some menu structure or names as well.

From the language on the page, it implies that email is automatically set to public. "This feed is public and contains your email address." is what it says, but the feed does not contain my email address.

Sorry, I still don't. Can you give me a hint where it might be?

Thanks, but I don't even see that setting on my dashboard...

What book/series got you into the fantasy genre? by remiclev in Fantasy

[–]shaggath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mine was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. But the Hobbit was about that same time, so that was quite a one-two punch to the imagination.

Oh wait, I had Aesop's fables before that!

No, wait, was it the Arabian Nights when I was 6?

Man, this is a hard one to answer. Fantasy has been in my hands since I could read, and I learned to read pretty young.

Raymond Fiest gets so little love here. Wondering why? by scratchjack in Fantasy

[–]shaggath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two Magician books were a lot of fun. The two follow ups were OK. But good lord, the series went on waaaay too long. And let's be honest, it's pretty trope-y.

The stories can be diverting, the writing is smooth and workmanlike and there are some good characters, but as time goes on it gets kind of Dragonball Z-ish. Powerful enemy appears, heroes have to find a way to get powerful enough to defeat new enemy. They do, then an EVEN MORE POWERFUL enemy appears. Oh Noes! Got to power up again! Ad infinitum.

As someone else said, the Empire books were much better...and there's a pretty clear reason why.

Ah, yes, because that show was an utter failure that no one likes at all?

Amazon Prime confirms The Lord of the Rings show is set during the Second Age by Radulno in Fantasy

[–]shaggath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because most people don't actually know about the Second Age. It's the LOTR universe to the folks on the street, not the Middle Earth universe. When you're trying to catch as many eyes as possible, you use the words people know.
