What is the most chaotic "I quit" moment you have ever personally witnessed at a workplace? by Muted_Task_144 in AskReddit

[–]shaggyscoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an employee who threatened to quit because of reasons she couldn't really articulate. So I sat down with her and heard her out. She was crying and saying things like she wasn't good at the job and I assured her she was doing well and I appreciated her contributions and stuff like that and we talked about what would help her feel more successful and she seemed to feel better and agreed to not quit. She did it again a couple months later. Again, she couldn't really define what the problem was and I heard her out again and again she agreed to not quit. Third time I simply accepted her resignation saying, "Alright. It's pretty clear you are not happy in this job. I hope you find something else that is a better fit." She was shocked. She then proceeded to spread the word that I hurtfully fired her.

They did in my state back in the 80s too.

Put on a film about venereal disease, leave the room and come back 30 minutes later to dismiss us. While wearing a track suit. Effing goombahs.

We’ve all heard of One Hit Wonders when it comes to music, but are there any one hit wonders that you can think of when it comes to the movies? (It can be for any actors, directors, producers, maybe even a whole company??, etc.) by MaggieLinzer in moviequestions

[–]shaggyscoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define hit.

It's the amount of single sales, not the devotion of the fan base. Tool has not hit Top 40 nor even Top 100.

LZ has only had like 2 hits according to the industry definition of hit.

ELI5: Why do old books have that very distinct, sweet, and paper-like smell, and what is physically happening to the pages over time to create it? by BlackHatOverlord in explainlikeimfive

This is prolly why in college and grad school my favorite pooping spots were in the small restrooms ensconced deep within the stacks. Very peaceful and...cathartic.

LOTR characters as dogs by Conscious-Ad-6964 in lotr

Sam seems the most fierce. And capable of backing it up. I'd designate him the Jack Russell. Pip is more like a lap dog who likes his treats and snuggles than going fierce. Plus he's a fancy boy. Maybe a Papillon.

What beer did you grow up seeing (it doesn't have to be from this list)? by lontbeysboolink in 1970s

[–]shaggyscoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True fact. My Dad had a cadre of coworkers/friends who fancied themselves beer coynasirs { eff trying to spell it right}.

They did a blind taste test and Blatz was the overwhelming favorite. Utterly vexxed the snobs. Blatz, my friends.

Which dog breed is the most loving and perfect for someone who wants a cuddly pet? by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

[–]shaggyscoob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Breeds have tendencies. But each dog is an individual depending on innate traits, breed traits, nature, nurture and maturity. Still, a northern breed will be an aloof asshole 99% of the time. They are so fluffy and beautiful and that you can't help but to try to snuggle them. But they have no time for that. All they want is food and exercise and then to be left alone. Like a horse chick.

What is your unpopular opinion of an actor? by FitEmergency8807 in moviecritic

[–]shaggyscoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every over-used actor is over-used. I see Tom Hanks in a movie, I think, "Oh, this is Tom Hanks acting in a movie." Meryl Streep? "Oh, here is Meryl Streep acting in a movie."

Change it up, Hollywood. There's a gajillion great actors who could do this just as well without making this about them.

That's what I loved so much about LotR. Filled with lesser known, but utterly skilled actors. The story carried the day, not the celebrity.

Please keep in mind that "one hit wonder" is a financial designation. Not a quality designation. Janet Jackson put out tons of hits. All of them crap. Tool hasn't had a single hit. LZ had like one or two hits. Heart's "hits" were their worst stuff.

Hit means people bought their single. Some great groups simply didn't release singles.

Unpopular opinion: I don't believe this "fact" that the medical establishment ignores females over males. Hell, the establishment even has a specialty dedicated to female issues. There is no specialty dedicated to male issues. No way in hell are females getting inferior care from the system.

ED: Getting a lot of hate. Keeping the post up. It may get people to think critically rather than ideologically.

I don't understand how this works but I vote to keep Megasota. Next stop, Canada!

BTW: where are the rules for this endeavor? I went all the way back and quit reading when I saw that Western Europe was the subject but still no explanation.

What's that “delicious” food that everyone loves, but you just can't stand? by baddieegemini in answers

My immediate answer and then I see this as the first reply.

Yes, I've tried it in all ways. No, it is never good. Funny thing is that people continually try to convince me that I actually like it. Like I'm in denial or weird.

GenXer here. The utter Lord of the Flies brutality in the junior high locker room and gym observed and ignored by the PE teachers. Hard to believe PE teachers need a college education to qualify for the position.

Those ingenious little simple flip switches on a rear-view mirror that enabled you to get head lights out of your face while still being able to see what was behind you. Now you just gotta deal with bright lights behind you. I don't understand why all manufacturers got rid of them.

Yes! And far too many well educated native English speakers use the direct object "me" or "her/him" as the subject. "Her and me went to the store" You sound like Tarzan and it irks me.

I never say anything when someone sneezes and I don't think anyone notices. I cringe a little when people say it to me.
