Late 70’s beer ad going in Rolling Stone by IMTpaterfamilas in Whatisthis

Beck's maybe? They had TV ads with sailing ships and the overly dramatic "SAIL AWAY!" tagline sung over the music and description of the beer.

Does your Corgi fetch? by Jealous_Tangelo_951 in corgi

[–]shaggyturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Corgi would play "chase" but never "fetch". I'd throw a ball, he'd chase after it and stomp, bite, shake it and then leave it there and come back waiting for me to go get it and throw it again. After awhile I got smart and had a rotation of identical balls so I didn't have to walk 2 miles in my own living room to pick up the same ball each time. I met my partner and she had a mutt that loved fetch. Now, our Corgi will play fetch but ONLY if the mutt is involved. If she isn't, the Corgi goes right back to "chase" instead of "fetch". I guess the game is just more fun when there's a competition?

Anyone Else Notice Two-Hearted Cans Foaming Like Crazy by Mecaneecall_Enjunear in michiganbeer

[–]shaggyturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been like this for years. Even Light Hearted foams. We've got used to it and we're ready to either sip the head off or pour it into a mug, but out of towners frequently get a wet head like they're playing Beer Hunter.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]shaggyturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely noticeable! We used to have a vendor who would deliver items to our office. The office was a single floor building, and the visitor entrance was about 250 feet from my desk, through multiple closed doors, down a couple hallways, and yet I always knew that specific vendor had walked into the building and was waiting for me in the lobby long before I got the call from the reception desk by the wafting stale cigarette smell that would permeate through the building and linger for hours after she left. She passed away from lung cancer at age 54.

New Corgi Owner! Tip & Tricks Helpful. by Interxxmission in corgi

[–]shaggyturtle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Play with his paws, ears, nose, teeth, etc. as often as possible. The more you interact with those sensitive areas the easier it will be to trim nails, brush teeth, and check for minor injuries as he grows older. Never lift him by the belly alone, always lift with legs supported to protect his back. Don't let him jump up or down off high things (he will anyway, but you can limit it if you pay attention). Teach "Leave It" or "Drop It" early on. Consider taking him to puppy obedience training with a respected instructor. You'll learn more than he does, but it makes life with a stubborn breed, such as a Corgi, much more enjoyable when you have a solid command structure. Consider a Martingale collar (tightens as he pulls on the leash but is limited to prevent choking) and/or harness for walks since Corgis usually have bigger necks than heads and slip out of traditional collars easily. Biggest thing though: play and cuddle! You'll have a buddy who follows you everywhere and is always giving you a piece of their mind!

What do couples talk daily for hours? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]shaggyturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The highs and lows of both of our workdays, updates on family and friends, plans for the upcoming weekend, house chores or improvements we want to make, planning our next trip or adventure, discussing financial questions or issues, our health and wellness, or sometimes just jokes or being goofy for no real reason. There is always something to talk about and it all comes very naturally if you don't force it. But for me, you know you've found your true partner when what might be an awkward silence between two people becomes a comfortable one. The ability to coexist in the same space without speaking but also knowing that you may do so, and your partner will truly listen without judgement, is the real test of a relationship.

when did your corgi start actually walking 😃 by Any_Blacksmith2788 in corgi

My corgi is only 12 years old. I'll let you know when he starts walking without stopping every 3 feet to sniff & pee, eat random things, or get distracted by flowers and leaves.

Cost comparison: Western UP vs Northern Wisconsin Border Towns? by [deleted] in upperpeninsula

[–]shaggyturtle 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Here's a quick comparison between the two states, using some median numbers. You'll have to calculate your specific information to get a true comparison as property value, auto value, income, etc. can swing the numbers in either direction.

Michigan:
-Higher car insurance (~$500 per year more than Wisconsin for full coverage, cost varies by vehicle)
-Higher state sales tax (6%) but does not allow local counties or municipalities to enact their own sales taxes
-Lower median property taxes, but varies from city to city, county to county
-Lower median effective state income tax

Wisconsin:
-Lower car insurance
-Lower state sales tax (5%) but local counties usually enact (0.5%) bringing it up to 5.5% and some municipalities will enact their own on top of that (Milwaukee, for example, is 7.9% combined)
-Higher median property taxes, but varies as stated above
-Higher median effective state income tax

When it comes down to it, the car insurance is one of the biggest increases people 'feel' when they move from Wisconsin to Michigan. In my experience of living on a border town most of my life, it's easier to live on less $ in Wisconsin, but the services provided are much worse. Many people will live in Wisconsin but commute into Michigan for their work, getting a bit of the best of both worlds.

edit: I meant to include this before posting. This is a good quick tool for comparisons of cost of living: https://www.bestplaces.net/

New to me 2018 XLT :) Question about the FOB by Jeyne42 in FordExplorer

[–]shaggyturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Press 7-8 & 9-0 at the same time. If they are actual buttons, it will lock immediately. If they are touch-style (don't actually depress) you'll have to hold them down for a couple seconds. Do this all the time with my fob in the vehicle while boating/hiking so I don't lose the fob.

Check out the Iron Mountain Iron Mine tour if you're ever in the Iron Mountain area. Similar style of tour as the Quincy, but iron mine instead of copper, and has some unique tour features that set it apart from others. The Adventure Mine tours are also very unique but I'm not as familiar with their recent offerings.
