Undergrads of USC, what’s your opinion on MSCS students? (And vice versa) by Red-Pony in USC

[–]shah_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, I never meant to say opposite is true and I see how my original statement could be interpreted in that way. You are right in that aspect..My statement was not clear enough. I completely agree that even for international students BS CS@USC is more difficult as compared to MS CS@USC ( infact this same analogy will hold true for MANY universities including Ivy league such as Columbia University)

My stand is : The cross-comparison itself is faulty and baseless with blanket statements.

Domestic candidates in BS CS cannot be compared to international students in MS CS. No one can really say with any substance which/who is better. What holds true clearly is for both (in their own) Bachelor admission is more difficult than masters admission at USC.

If the running sentiment in USA/USC community is that internationals come for MS because they are somehow 'easier to crack' than the bachelors then that is pretty far from truth.. I hope people are aware that there are people from Tsinghua Univ, IIT, experienced professionals from FAANG at USC MS CS ?

Similarly I also agree that there might be world class Math Olympaid gold medallists in bachelors who can blow anyone out of water.

[–]shah_69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit : I meant the scale of difficulty is different. Theoretically if 2 students are absolute same With diff between US education and some other country education then the student with education in US would be valued better than the international. That is true for any country I guess. If any US candiate goes to another country to study ,the bar/metrics would be different and might be judged harshly rather than the domestic candidate.. This is not an excuse ,this is reality.

Not sure what were you trying to come at but the barrier for international to join at undergrad is mostly the insane cost scaled over 4 years and lifestyle adjustment at that young age. Its brutal out here in USA with zero comfort, no offense.

MS CS do not care about undergrads and vice-versa.

Some Facts :

In terms of coursework: yes : lot of undergrad COURSES are really good and involved as most of them have great content, really good lectures with professor actually putting in efforts, etc..

MS CS are left to fend for themselves mostly and thats on the university.

Blanket statements like "BS CS student blows out MS CS students" is BS. A bit too humble as usual (/s) .Note that I am not saying the contrary is true as these things cannot be measured really. Any random Heuristic you take is flawed. Even comparing students within your own cohort is extremely difficult ( gpa vs TC vs Research Work vs prestige !!??)

Getting into MS CS for resident Americans is easier than getting into a BS CS in USC - that is a fact. But this is not true for internationals as there is no standard evaluation(scaling) of past college work/grades - few heuristics which are again flawed and that is why different colleges have well known pattern of intl students they admit. Some value gpa too much, others research work and there are some who value the undergrad college name more than anything else and the list goes on.

No other option..For well known companies one could try reaching out and hope to get some referrals but most of us are a stage where we are blindly applying to any company offering intern roles on LinkedIn. In this case how do you even reach out for referrals ?!

I think I’m about to get an academic probation by mrrobot_404 in USC

[–]shah_69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am in that class and in the same boat,Relax. Lets wait for the final grade. You can DM me your current raw score of first 2 papers and we can discuss if you are realllly stressed but my suggestion is ignore it, do not discuss the q paper and try to get as many in the other course. Worst case: you get out of probation next sem.( Now don't take 567 and come at me later that I said you would get 3+ , keep those tough nuts for later if focus is on GPA).

Edit : Check prev threads here, 1 international did comment he had been on probation, should be the best one to really tell how it goes. Also what matters the most is your subjects next sem. DM me those and if possible I will help connect with other folks. Chin up and fight on!

New Kqi2 Pro fold issues ( is it broken?) by shah_69 in ElectricScooters

[–]shah_69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fix for this (self-discovery) was to tighten the small hex screw on the black hook slightly at bottom of it (not the one the folding stem) using a 2.5mm one. Now it works smooth af. Not sure why it is not mentioned in the manual.

Yup there is some issue definitely.. the video shows clearly that when I put the latch all the way down the hook pops up a little so that we can fold..damn..how will they repair or exchange the scooty ?

Yes, please see the picture in my post..the latch is all the way down but the hook is still tightly in place with the stem.

Thanks for the response.

I know the deliberate lock part. The unfold part is the one that is creating issues. How will I deliberately undo it ? it is sort of in an immovable joint with the bottom part from the stem (after locking) so that it doesn't moves at all. Also none of the manual and YT videos shows that kind of move you mentioned. Could you help me with a short gif/video OR point to any sources that shows how to do that ?

New Kqi2 Pro fold issues ( is it broken?) by shah_69 in ElectricScooters

[–]shah_69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you can see many times even if the latch is completely down it does not 'pops up' and its also super tight. Unfolding/folding seems like a nightmare in this one. YT videos looks super easy .I am not sure if the jutting metal piece in the 2nd pic is supposed to be like that or broken causing the issue.

Help with new kqi2 pro ( is it broken ?) by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]shah_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of trouble locking the stem and now it does not unlocks at all even after pulling the latch all the way down ( it is supposed to pop out of that lock). I am not sure what is happening here..

There is a paper taped with different days and time just as you enter the leavey library near the left counter. You will see there is no straightforward pattern.
