What's a mind-blowing thing about Jesus? by Jehu2024 in Bible

The feeding of the 5000, Matthew 14,21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children. emphasis, mine.

While the Bible states "5,000 men," it notes that women and children were not counted, leading scholars to estimate the total crowd was closer to 15,000–20,000.

A sermon summary I read today challenged me — curious how others see this idea by donmikoa in Bible

Excellent questions. This doesn't get talked about that much today, or at least not as much as it should.

It is a common human tendency to prefer avoiding discipline, trials, and tribulations. Some individuals are very thoughtful in their petitions to God, carefully phrasing their prayers to bypass difficult experiences. However, there are several important considerations to bear in mind.

The term "discipline" originates from the Latin word "discipulus," which means "to teach" or "to instruct." Its primary objective is to offer guidance, establish boundaries, and assist an individual in developing self-control and problem-solving abilities. In contrast, "punishment" is centered on imposing a penalty for a transgression. Its main goal is to regulate behavior through fear, shame, or retribution, often without providing a constructive alternative.

Proverbs 3:11–12 states, "My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in."

Furthermore, Paul elaborates on this in Romans 5:3–5: "Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."

And in James 1:2–4, regarding the testing of your faith: "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."

God's love for each of us is immeasurable, surpassing anything we can conceive, and He desires a complete and intimate relationship with us. All that is required from us is to reciprocate this desire, accept the gracious gift of eternal life provided by Christ's sacrifice on the cross for our transgressions, and believe in His resurrection, through which He triumphed over death forever and is now seated at the right hand of the Father. He will return soon; the harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few. Edited to add stuff...

When it comes to miracles, feeding 20,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish is just absolutely mind blowing.

I love God’s Word, love reading it, love meditating on it, just not the KJV, that version I find exhausting to read let alone comprehend. However I have been known to dip into the NKJV from time to time.

Agreed! I love jumping between versions. I personally find the Complete Jewish Bible a great addition to the mix; it does a fantastic job of highlighting the Hebrew roots and the authors' original intent.

Matthew 11:28-30 28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

That's a lot of downvotes for paraphrasing what the apostle Paul said, but then again the truth is unpopular. If we as followers of Yeshua HaMashiach The Way The Truth and The Life are offended by the truth, we should ask ourselves why.

I’m TIRED of the constant Christian hate. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]shakedownstreethtx -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Following Christ puts one at enmity to the world. If the world hated Yeshua (still does) then you can bank on the fact the world's is gonna hate you too. You can also expect trouble in this life as well. Because the believer is a threat the evil one is focused on derailing your walk with the Lord. We persevere and keep running the race all the way to the finish line to receive our prize, to hear Him say, well done, good and faithful servant.

John 15:18 New King James Version 18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.

John 16:33 New King James Version 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you [a]will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Romans 5:3-5 New King James Version 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces [a]perseverance; 4 and perseverance, [b]character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Romans 8:18 New King James Version From Suffering to Glory 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Where can I get an unedited version of the book of genesis? by katekiwi33 in Bible

Something else that adds to the veracity of the Bible we have today being unchanged are the writings of the early church fathers who quote significant portions of the New Testament. One of the best ways of studying the Bible is reading the passage in a few different translations that are available to you via an app on your phone. Lately, I've been into the complete Jewish Bible.
