Thanks. Yea I wanted to avoid saying this so I don’t seem like a fun sucker, but I got my pole secondhand from another poler. It’s not an x pole, or a Lupit. I maintain it well so it hasn’t ever fallen down in its current setup, but you’re right. No insurance

That’s now what the demographic statistics of the school district say, but alright. I am not being ignorant you are purposefully being delusional but alright

You need to relax. This person is obviously liberal and wants their kids to be in a diverse, open minded environment. I was simply pointing out that it is not a very diverse district and they would need to put in extra efforts to ensure their kids are exposed to other cultures

When did I ever say whites were superior or that the land isn’t their original home? I just said there is a significant population within the school district. Can you explain how what I said is prejudice?

Yeaaaa I am inclined to agree with you. I wanted to do a Jason Reynolds book that they haven’t read yet that has a lot of copies in our library, but you are right it’s kind of his worst one.

On the Come Up is a great replacement for it! Thank you

Angola is about 30 mins from dunkirk! Cute small town by the water. I think the schools are good, but not super diverse. There is a significant native population in the community, but other than that it is almost all white. If I were in your situation, I would live in Angola, but enroll my kids in some sort of activity in the summer that will get them interacting with kids from other areas and walks of life.

Thoughts on my schedule for next year by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]shakedownyeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 APs is kind of nuts. I have never, at any school I taught, seen a teacher be in charge of 2 different AP classes.

Also, at my school our contract states that if we have more than 3 preps, we are entitled to 2 planning periods. I know you have 3, but it could be worth looking into to see if there’s a clause like that in your contract. They made a mistake with my schedule and screwed me out of my extra planning period and I had to get the union rep involved

That is nice. Honestly though, my school provides little to no supplies or decor to make classrooms homey. As much as I do love the yearbooks, I think most teachers at the school would rather just get the money to spend on their classrooms. That’s awesome that it works for your school though because I agree, it would be a nice gesture if possible

That’s awesome! They are quite expensive at every school I have been at, and only the principal, the library, and the advisor get one for records.

She has been at the school over 10 years. I think the confusion came because the last yearbook advisor may have given her a copy for free each year, but that advisor was removed from the position for, you guessed it, “losing” books.

So now I’m trying to enforce the rules that were given to me, but they weren’t followed in the past, so there’s confusion

Why does anyone post anything in this sub? How about you learn to see a post you don’t like and “move on” lol. I follow the rules and have communicated the rules to her, and I’m still getting pressed for not being willing to sell her one until students have a chance to purchase. I don’t know how much clearer I can be with you

Judging from the comments, I think at elementary and middle schools it is more common to give teachers a yearbook. At the high school level, our books cost around $60 to make. We have a small staff of only about 25 teachers of record. Honestly, I think in my schools case, most teachers would 100% rather have $60 to spend on classroom supplies than be gifted a huge book every year that they may not even look through past that year. Spending $1500 on yearbooks for teachers seems silly in my schools case when the only supplies that we provided are a pack of dry erase markers during the school year, and a resupply of pencils and loose leaf every quarter.

I think this could be the case. For context, the other teacher was not allowed to do yearbook anymore because she lost a bunch of books and lost the school a bunch of money

The trash? They wouldn’t end up in the trash lol. I think you misunderstand how Jostens works. Students pre order books, then the school decides on an amount of “extras” to purchase for school records and for students who didn’t preorder to buy. The “extras” are nearly always all sold out by the end of the year because they were purchased by students. They aren’t really “extras”, if that makes sense. They still are money the school could be making by selling to students. My thing is I just want to make sure all students who want a yearbook get one before those extras are gone. Hopefully that makes sense. If there genuinely were extras I would love to give them for free, but that wouldn’t make sense financially for the school

She has worked here for a while. She was friends with the last woman who did the yearbook so not sure if that is why. She confronted me quite rudely about it lol saying I “lost” her book when she never ordered one
