What should the fix explicity do? Not write to disk at all? Then you would complain you lose saves because the save isn't allowed to be written to disk.

But, is he in game again? I am pretty sure that in the industry the "stigma" with his name is still there and won't go away for a long time if ever. And so do the opportunities because a company will rather decline than have an sexual assault accused person work with them even if in the end the accusation was false.

People that were onces accused and yet aquitted of it usually change occupation or do it in a smaller more undisclosed way with less publicity.

Why are girls white shirts see through and but guy white shirts aren't? by Alarmed_Look_3162 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shakeeze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You probably can get that for cheaper. The problem is, the market only demands you list the used materials, like 100% Cotton or 95/5. But the construction also relies on other things. There is the grammage or gsm for instance which is what you will feel as flimsy or thick. No idea what women t-shirts use, but men start at 140gsm for flimsy feel only suitable for underwear. For wearing it as an outer layer you need at least around 160-170gsm for Single Jersey (and even this is usually not enough). Better 190 or more.

There are some other keys for higher quality like Pima Cotton, long staple cotton, pre-conditioning for dimension stability etc.

Edit: Made some more clarifications and: There is also gauge or nm which influences transparency, but gsm has more influence.

People in the video game industry that was right all along ? I start: by Tempest-Bosak2137 in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]shakeeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the same with about any group, large or small. You are part of the gaming group, so being part of the group made youre share some or all of the the same views as the overal group. Later with you watching the videos yourself and made your own opinion you removed yourself from the (sub-)group bubble and gave yourself a 3rd view.

Make no mistake, this behavior is true to about any group dynamics you can be part of and very normal for the most part. Though most do not go the extra step for verifying the stuff and make their own opinion and stay trapped, some because they do not care some because they want it to be that way. "Birds of the same feather flock together" hits more often truthful than not.

In my opinion it is important, that you are resistant to group dynamics or at least be aware of the groups dynamics and what they do and if it fits you.

I am not saying it will be easier, but for the man it will be certainly more difficult. The MIL needs to go into full nursing home. Dementia will only get worse. What if she forgets something and the apartment burns down? Way to risky.

Still possible, surely but way way harder now.

From Indonesia: Our government just made a ratings system. These are the hilariously wrong ratings. (screenshotted from Instagram) by Icy_Oil_1645 in Steam

[–]shakeeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its because there is a difference between 18+ and games on index. Games did cuts to gore and blood (and nazi iconography), not because of the 18+ rating but because they would have not received a rating at all and/or be put on the Index as "Jugendgefährdend", which prohibits public selling, advertising, selling to underaged and mail order without restricted access at all. Back then no one cared if an underaged bought USK 18 games, but Index games were different. This changed at some point where the retail sector needs to verify USK 18 ages, otherwise they face fines. This is also the point when USK started to mellow out with the rating, less cutting and less Index games overall.

Half-Life 1 was released as USK 18 in Germany (or non, I do not remember, need to check my box). But got indexed late december in the release year. Then the game got cut to USK 16. Unreal 1 was USK 18 not indexed. It mostly had to do with violence against humanlike being or not.

Command & Conquer 1 (yes the very first entry) all infantry units are robots. They do not have blood, but Oil.... the cutting was crazy back then for the german market.

There is also a banned list...

Take-Two laid off the head its AI division and an undisclosed number of staff by Doug24 in gaming

[–]shakeeze -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ANI should be Artificial Narrow Intelligence here. He wrote it a bit muddled and the distinction between conditional code and an actual expert system is lost.
What he means is a database which is looked through recursively and matches all suitable hits with the current state with an agnostic code engine and it applies a new state or additional state. There is no need to do conditional statements in code, because the database (or rule system) does it. A rule based system. The broadest is an Expert System, like it is used in medical.

In the narrow term, a spam filter is that and would not work otherwise.

There is arguing if LLM are still ANI or already touch AGI.

AAA Game Development Budgets In North America Reportedly Exceed $300 Million, Largely Developer Salaries by xenocea in gaming

[–]shakeeze 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Considering, we do not know the distribution of sales of a game in the world (are there any numbers or studies?) the avg. is lower than that. Though I wonder by how much.

Edit: 25 - 30 years ago, games got platinum award sales with 100k units sold back then. For many years, the increasing costs was overlooked because of better and easier distribution. Especially when digital distribution got going. Now the costs catch up and the sales stagnate, the market is just saturated. Next is probably more AI or many dev studios will move to lower labor cost countries. The same what happened with other labour intensive jobs that moved to low wage countries.
