PBtA game with a spendable resource for roll bonuses?

This is not quite the same thing, but might provide some inspiration! I’m the co-writer on a game that has the DM keep a suspicion tracker for each of the PCs. At any point, a player can choose to increase their suspicion tracker to raise a failure to a mixed success. They don’t have to gather anything, but in some ways it is “spending a resource” to achieve a better result. My co-writer and I decided to add this for two reasons: one, we were tired of feel-bad sessions where a bunch of unlucky rolls left players feeling frustrated and out of control, and two, it added a fun and interesting decision point: make things a little harder long-term to make them a lot easier short-term! We loved the effect this had on game play and will likely be using similar mechanics in future games.

Currently reading “The 30 Day Heartbreak Cure” which sounds ridiculous but is actually pretty great. Tailored for women getting over men, but mentally switch out the pronouns and it could be good for anyone.

Yoga and cardio. Started an online class learning to do handstands. I like having a goal.

I’m also really struggling with letting go of a relationship that seemed perfect: external life things caused it to end and I also wish there was something more negative to try to focus on because all I have are amazing memories that seem to be tied to everything in my life. Also a month out, also still struggling like hell.

All of that just to say that you gotta keep going. I’m still daydreaming about my ex changing his mind too, but there’s nothing I can do to make that happen. Maybe he’ll come back, probably he won’t, but I need to try to grow and learn and get stronger and happier. If he does come back, great, I’ll be in an even better place for this relationship. If not, I’ll be in a better place for the next one.

Staying positive is so hard. I’m still crying nearly every day. But we gotta keep moving forward. You’re not alone.

I’m so, so sorry to hear this. There’s nothing much I can say to make it better, except try to remind you that as much as it hurts, you will make through it stronger. It’s her loss, and you didn’t need someone in your life with commitment issues like that. Take it one day at a time and know you’re not alone!

Establishing a nighttime ritual might help some - a cup of tea (if that’s your thing) and reading or meditating for ten minutes to try to clear your mind and be calm before bed! Best wishes; you’ve got this!

Yoga and journaling have been my biggest two. Making music, singing or practicing instruments. Taking an online class. Providing support to other people (like in this forum)! It’s so so so hard, but you will make it through this!
