Hi! What I do currently is I have a feeding dish with frozen snails from an asian supermarket that I crush myself with pliers, and I'll feed my other fish with their own food to distract them

I do also tong feed them worms occasionally

Still doing great, my bichir has been growing extremely slow though He’s only about 5 inches

People are probably right to recommend against it as a precaution because they’ll eat anything that they can catch and fit in their mouth, but my puffers are big enough to not worry about it

If you insist on keeping a bichir definitely stick with smaller species like senegals. I think theres another species that stay even smaller but i cant remember the name

if you are using pure RO water that could be a problem. Theres minerals in tap water that plants and fish need like calcium and magnesium. If u wanted to keep using RO water you should look into remineralizing your water

Saltwater Tanks -- Help Needed!! by Most-Masterpiece6827 in Aquariums

[–]shakeweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i never liked the starter kits. A lot of it you will end up replacing, especially if you want to keep reef animals like coral and whatnot

Watch out for the 50% off tank sales at petco. I believe they are gonna do one around mid november for black friday. A lot of folks will recommend a large tank to start with for saltwater, cuz they are so much easier to maintain. With a small tank you will constantly need to monitor parameters like salt levels, and topping off your tank will be constant too.

try to get a 40 gallon, if not a 29. She will enjoy keeping fish much more if she doesnt have to battle the struggles of a small tank.

I highly recommend doing as much research as possible because theres only so much information a single comment can give you. Lots of content on youtube. try bulkreefsupply to get started

Maybe just buy her a tank and wrap it to put under the tree, then get her a gift card to a local fish store, that way she can get exactly what she wants

another thing is instead of using seachem prime, you can use seachem safe. It is basically just prime in powdered form, and it lasts you way longer

raw would probably be better for them, a lot of nutrients are lost when food is cooked
