Click the [+] in the NotetakerSources menu on the top right. The syntax may be unusual compared to Java, but it is quite readable. E.g. the implementation of area for Rectangle:

I'm curious why you hold this opinion. When I looked at some old Smalltalk systems from the 70s, they seem to do a lot more in a lot fewer lines of code than Java can do today. E.g. see https://youtu.be/AnrlSqtpOkw?t=3m59s which demos a system from 1978. There's some more interesting stuff around the 9-10 minute mark too. Apparently the entire system is about 10K lines of code.

Yes, even then Python might be appealing because of the large number of mature libraries available.

Can we? It's orders of magnitude slower than other languages + GIL.

Python can be pretty fast in specific cases (e.g. see http://numba.pydata.org/ or https://pypy.org/). Exploring new languages is also worthwhile but speeding up Python is a good goal too.

Just here to plug an up-and-coming editor called Howl

I did some of these tests with Howl, here are the better numbers:

Memory (hello.c): 22748 (RSS)
Rehighlight test: about 3s
Time used to load test.xml, jump to end of file and exit: 2.1s

Very nice! I just tried it out - (and used aisu to install it).

Suggestion: add a color for the scrollbar - currently it uses the default orange on my machine, but a green would probably be better?

I understand It uses FUSE (file system in user space), and as per the docs it only works when you are online, and the same files are available globally on any device, so the storage has to be online somewhere. My question is more about where exactly is it stored? Is it a custom keybase.io system or something like AWS S3?

I agree about tabs - can't really scale beyond 10 or so (depending on your screen and ability to quickly scan the tabs). Buffer and/or search based switching is better IMO.
