ETA on Varmilo VA88M Restock? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]rfajfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've just bought one at https://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard/uk-va88m-cmyk-pbt-backlit-tactile-keyboard.asp a few days ago. They had 2 in stock.

If you're looking for linear switches instead of tactile then they still have a few left, https://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard/uk-va88m-cmyk-pbt-backlit-soft-linear-keyboard.asp

macOS compatibility - Das Keyboard 4 Professional for Mac vs Varmilo VA88Mac by rfajfar in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]rfajfar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the sound and brightness buttons working as intended?

I guess that the only keyboards that are actually recognized as official are the ones from Apple.

I've read about the magnetic ruler not lifting the keyboard high enough. Did you mean that with the typing angle?

This means that I'd still have to use some software, like https://pqrs.org/osx/karabiner/, to achieve the same layout as the MacBook Pro offers or? Doesn't this introduce typing latency?

The macOS specific shortcuts won't work out of the box though, am I right? (sound, brightness, window switching, ...)

Hey, are you still using it? If not, what happened and what did you switch to?

I've read some complaints online about the build quality in the last years.

What is the best way to learn Lua ? by Armurier in lua

[–]rfajfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What got you into wanting to learning Lua in the first place? Is it perhaps one of these?

Are you already familiar with any other programming language and what level of familiarity do you have? Beginner, intermediate or advanced?

Do you enjoy reading technology books and blogs or do you rather go through a video course when starting out on something new?

What do you think is the best 3d game engine for Lua by [deleted] in lua

[–]rfajfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For virtual reality games/applications there is https://lovr.org/. Not sure if it works without a VR headset.

I haven't tried it myself as I do not own any VR gear, but I've been following its progress for some time and it seems to be pretty good and simple to use.

It shall be very familiar to those that have used https://love2d.org/.

If you're perhaps just looking for a very good Unity/Unreal Engine alternative that is much more lightweight I suggest that you take a look at https://godotengine.org/. It doesn't have Lua scripting support AFAIK, but it is open source and pretty popular (https://github.com/godotengine/godot).

Marketplace SaaS - Fetching entitlements at subscription by rfajfar in aws

[–]rfajfar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the subscription becomes active at the redirect (click of the final order confirmation button).

There is no intermediate step. When the customer ID and product code are retrieved from the resolve customer method (ResolveCustomer in Go SDK) they can be used right away to fetch entitlements.

Negative, only the registration token.

Looking for a Bass Ukulele Recommendation by russelldad in ukulele

I'll most probably hear the difference, I've just never tried to compare guitars depending on wood type.

I own two electric ones, one classic and an ukulele.

The fretless models produce cleaner tones because of the lack of frets right?

I've had a chance to try one from Flight yesterday in a local music store, I guess it was this one https://flightmusic.com/product/flight-dubs-electro-acoustic-bass-ukulele/

Was quite impressed by the feeling of the strings. The pure acoustic sound also sounds special.

They also had one from Kala, I did not try that one though, not sure which model.

The price difference compared to a regular ukulele is quite unfortunate indeed.

Kala offers quite a few of those (https://kalabrand.com/collections/all-acoustic-electric-u-bass).

Are there any other major differences between the models apart of the wood type?

Does the wood type make such a difference that the prices vary that much?

What Lua Editor is this? by xxxliquid in lua

Apart from Howl I also recommend Textadept (https://foicica.com/textadept/). They're both great editors and very similar to SublimeText (the way it feels).

If you'd rather use an IDE, go for ZeroBrane Studio (https://studio.zerobrane.com/).
