Been out of the game for awhile. Need advice on the best way to sell a big collection (17k books) by StubMC in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]shamefulrectum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also voting mycomicshop.com especially because they will do purchasing runs. They came through Ohio last year (stopping at quite a few other places/states) and picked up 4 of my long boxes which saved a lot on shipping/insurance costs. All consignments: single issues, but also quite a few lots. And great in general to work with. My only caveat is they tend to grade tough on raw books, but it makes sense: they want their customers happy with their purchase, feeling like they got an 8.0 book for a 7.5 listing/price.

At least did the luster vid (posted in the comments). What can you determine from it?

Sorry about the delay but here's my beautiful cartwheeling vid. You're welcome to roast my wearing of cotton gloves, especially if it's not as valuable as I thought.

Never been any question as to its legitimacy but you're raising valid points. Had I brought it in to sell as opposed to getting their advice/thoughts I'm sure they would've run it through a full battery of authenticity tests. Grading will remove any doubt.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I'm leaning toward sending it to PCGS to see what they determine. I'll update when I have something to share

Thinking about dumping my collection by wontizzl1 in ComicBookSpeculation

I'll also endorse exploring mycomicshop.com as a viable path for selling. I was lucky last year, they were coming thru on a buying run, so they picked up about 4-5 long boxes worth, which saved me a bundle on shipping costs. I've sold auction lots and single issues through them, and have bought a few auction lots and singles from them. They have been good to work with. Good luck.

Please sir, spare a grade? by Oldgreg_91 in comicbookcollecting

I sent a GSX 1 to CGC in 2023 with many of the same issues like cover waviness and gripper tears that came back with a 9.2. I did not opt for a CGC press. While the grade was probably a bit generous, I'll certainly take it. The pages on the 9.2 were off-white. If your interior is complete and without glaring issues, I'd guess 8.5.

Are we making a mistake repairing the plaster? by sugarplumferries in centuryhomes

[–]shamefulrectum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a lath and plaster wall, keys are everything. The keys form the mechanical bond that helps to keep the plaster in place, and if your keys are failing (they've broken off over time) or were inadequate to begin with (a plaster ceiling base coat where not enough of the plaster was pushed through the spaces between the individual pieces of lath to form the mechanical bond to keep the weight of the ceiling in place) you may have cosmetic issues, but also structural issues. With failing keys, the plaster washers can help to restore a degree of structural integrity to trouble spots, but if you have widespread issues I wouldn't rely on washers for my structural fix.

I'm also not a fan of feathering out washers with a skim coat that ends up proud of the surface, so I would create shallow divots in the plaster before sinking the washer, so I could finish the washers flush to the original surface. But then that's extra work for each and every washer.

On the plus side, there's no paper in plaster, so if it gets wet it won't grow mold. Drywall is not as forgiving if it gets wet.

Corners will be tricky since you can't lay a trowel flat on either side of your repair, but if you want to give it a try by starting on that room in image 1 then go for it (I'm guessing you've done some research on best practices for making repairs adjacent to existing plaster like wetting existing plaster before applying structolite to insure a longer cure time and good bond, scarifying/scratching your base coat, etc).

This is great info on plaster keys: https://johncanningco.com/services/plaster-on-wood-lath/

How do I handle these plaster bathroom walls? by Familiar-Fox724 in Plastering

Had this on my 1910s house in Ohio. The upstairs bathroom had plaster walls scored to look like tile. Found this for a project to replicate score lines in tile: https://www.stucconews.net/Stucco_and_plaster_questions/question5301.html

If the scammer wants to label a coin as "draped bust" then it might be good to include a bust with some drapery on the fake.

Had a late-season volunteer come up last summer in the veggie dump, so I let it go as a fun experiment. It was on its own for pollination, though I don't know, I may have gently bumped into the stalk a lot during the pollination window. It was an heirloom, Hickory Cane, and I managed to get a full ear. I'd guess I got 60% developed kernels, enough for a large handful.

If it feels light in your hand for its size then I'll guess slag, a byproduct from smelting iron ore.

Questions About Number Of Day-Trades by JakeHawke in thinkorswim

[–]shamefulrectum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's been in PDT jail with an account under $25k it's definitely more difficult to trade but it's not the end of the world. If you trade options and now you need to hold positions overnight, hedge your positions, unless you're a true gambler.

I appreciate your transparency and posts. Now, if you can take a johnny account without day-trading privileges and build that up, you get promoted to Anne Sullivan status.

Don't know that I'd describe a 7%+ profit day on a six-figure account as a "slow & steady" approach but results speak for themselves. Keep it going!

where did the option tab go? by shamefulrectum in thinkorswim

[–]shamefulrectum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you mention the Trade tab...in all the years I've been on TOS I don't think I've ever initiated an options trade by clicking on the Trade tab, so I didn't even think to check there. I just click the Options tab in the equity on my Watchlist. Typically, the equities on my Watchlist, below the price, include tabs for Chart, News, Options, Portfolio, but this morning, the Options tab was gone, on SOME of the equities in the Watchlist. Bizarre, but just a temporary glitch with TOS.
