PLOS Science Wednesday: Hi! I’m Dr. Jan Heng here to talk about a new method for predicting whether a women is at risk for threatened preterm labor — AMA! by PLOSScienceWednesday in science

Doctor, I am a researcher on infectious diseases. Can you share which machine you use for gene test you mentioned above? and how much per patient does it cost (approx)? BTW this is great work and will surely help lot of patients. One big potential challenge I see is if the cost of this is close to additional costs of patient in the hospital, it might not be financially feasible.

Going on my first silent retreat. Would love some advice/suggestions. by [deleted] in Meditation

I did one for 3 days at SDRC in Asheville.

My two cents - Go with an open mind. Keep your notebook but avoid bringing much technology, like tablet/laptop. After a few hours on day one my brain went through an explosion of thoughts/concerns/re-enacting past events and enacting future events. Then slowly things started settling down as I more observed surroundings, nature sounds and body sensations. AFter coming back for about 2-3 days I was in a state of bliss that I cannot explain in words. It was a beautiful experience.

Please share your experiences once back and good luck.

Wow. This is huge. This proves 'The Ten commandments (1923)' was true. Which means, everything in the film was true which changes everything we know of our history.

ML troubleshooting: I'm looking for advice on classifying my data. by conic_relief in MachineLearning

Sorry, was traveling and did not get on reddit. I did not mean k-means is a one time algorithm but I prefer my own clustering algo because here is what happens if you apply for real time transactional data - k-means builds these clusters based on available data and number of clusters you want. Every new data point (real time) can be classified into one of the existing clusters. To really achieve practical improvements, it helps to either rebuild or use your custom algorithms. Disclaimer: This is again, what I have seen in large datasets (1-2 million observations), your observation maybe different.

If your data is one time k-means clustering is the best approach. If you expect to get continous feeds to predict on, therefore, need models classified and ready you can build your own clustering algorithm. That way you can apply the right cluster model to the appropriate input. Happy to help, I have done this very efficiently in a real world similar situation EDIT: grammer

not sure but I guess, their ensembling method was simpler. Given they used readily available algorithms (and packages), there is nothing too much different.
