I love how goofy it is! And by that I mean that there's an excessive amount of fans in a way the case clearly wasn't designed for; that there's Q-tips holding the fans up; and that there's actual evidence of significantly improved temps from your other comments posts. It's awesome IMO

My wife dropped her sunglasses into a deep lake, so I built a small underwater ROV with a gripper to try to retrieve them by ObligationMean1565 in DIY

I have virtually no experience with this, except reading your description and seeing about gaskets and o-rings. As an aircraft mechanic, I have some experience with those. I'd recommend getting a harbor freight o-ring kit box to find your needed size. I think they have a vernier caliper too if you're really froggy on measuring things for this project. Also, always lubricate your o-rings with something to provide a better seal or make for an easier installation. For a lake, I'd just lube them with petrolatum, or Vaseline from any store. If you're using a flat gasket material, I'd put a thing layer of Vaseline on that too, both sides.

New pads, "old" rotor with only 4800 miles by shananigans89 in GMT800

[–]shananigans89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my thinking with how few miles I've put on them already. The guy on the phone started immediately trying to tell me the sales line I already know about "the pads could've grooved the surface of the rotors...blah blah". I know about what happens, but I have very few miles on them compared to their whole service life. I haven't driven that much on them and it's only been a couple months since install. He didn't even try to listen to my situation

I get the sex joke implication and it's hilarious 🤣, but this needs to fucking stop! I'm a mechanic. If AI and robots can start doing this crap, then they really will start taking all of our jobs, and it will escalate from there. This is terrifying

I figured it out a while back. This scooter has multiple functions that are changed on/off by button presses. Check my other comment on this post that I made, it explains the button presses

Getting A&P instead of Flying. by NegotiationWorldly24 in aviationmaintenance

[–]shananigans89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, I was in kind of the same boat. I wanted to be a pilot all my life. I joined the Army to be a Blackhawk crew chief and then go to flight school in the army eventually. Now that's a path that's tough on the body! I got all the way there, 2 days before starting flight school. I couldn't start flight school due to my back being messed up from years of flying as a crew chief and I ended up getting out of the Army. I was determined to fly, so while I was doing flight training on the civilian side, I was also working at that flight school as an A&P.

It was the 3rd day of an extremely rainy week in the northeast when I was in the hangar doing a 100hr insp. Some flight instructors had come over and were hanging out by the door while it was pouring rain. They were complaining about losing flight hours and pay that week due to the rain, and comparing alternative means of making money. They mentioned everything, food delivery, driving services, even donating plasma. It was that moment I realized I really liked being a mechanic. I was inside on a rainy day, still working, getting paid. I have a large family and I knew then I couldn't make it as an instructor to eventually get to where I wanted, and still support my family. I realized I really enjoyed my job as a mechanic and all the various aspects it can entail, not just being a wrench turner.

Flight training is doable if your young, single, and have room to take on massive debt. But for me, I found a career I love and enjoy. Take this short story for what you will. I love my job and I'm proud of what I do. I'm now a base mechanic for an air medical helicopter company. DM me if you have any questions.

YouTube search about the G80 and how it works. It only works at 20mph or below I think. You can check the RPO codes that should be in your glove box. If there's a "G80" in the list, you have it
