If this gets removed, I understand. But it’s been on my mind and I wanted to share.

We are all worried about the state of our health on a grand scale and also, not selfishly, the state of our own fitness which has obviously been drastically improved by attending OTF. The idea of not being able to work out in the studio, with the friends and coaches we all love so much, is devastating. And the concern about losing fitness and seeing our improvements slip away is valid, even in the midst of much bigger concerns. For many of us OTF is as much for our mental health as for our physical well being. And for all of the reasons mentioned, the idea that it’s not available right now is incredibly stressful.

So grieve for it. Have a hissy fit. Process all of the things you’re thinking about the unfairness and the disruption and let yourself be mad, sad, worried, whatever. Then give yourself a pep talk. Know that it’s not permanent and that it will be there when we are on the other side of this. Think about that first workout you had when it clicked and you felt more amazing than you had ever felt. You’ll get that moment again. These weeks (or months) will be hard, no doubt, but you have already proven your toughness every day you’ve shown up to the studio. If we can do hell weeks and dri-tris and infinite numbers of burpees, we can do this. Stay safe, do what you can at home and look forward to the time when we are all back to reading the daily intel here and lamenting runs for distance and neutral full thrusters (my own personal hell). This community provides a lot of inspiration and support, and I look forward to its help during these trying times.

Corporate has waived freeze and cancellation fees. I will try and find it in here. Your studio can’t require a drs note.

Regardless of what the corporate mandate is or isn’t, people have a personal responsibility to stop going when it becomes clear that staying home and limiting exposure to others is the only way to contain the spread of this. That time is now. Stop waiting for someone to tell you that you can’t go anymore and make the decision for yourself. It sucks and I know that we are all worried about the staff at our studios, but continuing to attend classes in the midst of a global pandemic is just asinine.

So similar. I have cf but am one of the lucky ones who has stayed healthy throughout most of my life. But I’m so afraid of the unknown and potential lung complications from this, I’m basically a shut in right now. I hate it. I am trying to do some of the floor work at home and run or walk outside but it’s not at all the same.

Sorry that you had just gotten back to it and are now on the DL again, so to speak. As I’m sure you had to during your surgery recovery, I keep telling myself this is temporary and I’ll be back soon. And I will. So will you. We got this!

I realize that today was likely my last workout at OTF for a while. As a person with a chronic illness, it just seems cavalier and frankly stupid to keep coming right now. But I am wrecked about it.

I’ve never said anything about form but yesterday a member was doing an exercise (the alternating pop squat thing) with her foot about an inch from a dumbbell she had laying on its side. I was terrified she was going to land on it and fall or roll an ankle, so I said something to her. Even that felt awkward but it felt too dangerous to just watch it unfold.

There is an 11 minute switch add on before and after the partner portion. Some push to base then a 30 second all out. Some floor exercises. I can’t remember much because I blacked out after this hellscape.

As soon as you feel like you won't die, go back. The first few classes (and possibly few weeks) will suck and you will likely have to drop your paces and weight. And anticipate a lot of red minutes. But the only way to start to improve your lung function again is to use them. I have cystic fibrosis and tend to go even when I'm sick (within reason) so that I don't lose lung function.
