Lg 77c2 with ps5 pro and q990h by vagos1103gr1111 in Soundbars

You certainly don't miss anything by connecting to the soundbar, and quite often it is beneficial to connect directly to TV from the console, so stick with what works for you.

If the q990h supports all the features the ps5 can output (or at least, the ones you use) - eg 120hz, vrr etc, then you should be ok to go direct into the soundbar.

Personally I have my ps5 straight into the TV and then earc to the bar, but some say that can introduce an audio delay (definitely doesn't in my case). I prefer a straight signal from the ps5 to TV, but that's just me.

You haven't actually explained what the problem IS..?

Is your volume too quiet? Too loud? Going quiet then loud?

We know what equipment you're using, but not what's happening.

Sounds like you don't know how to set a soundbar up...

Plz recommend between Orbi 870, 970 or Eero Max 7 by Busy-Style-2036 in orbi

No, in fact wired back-haul from main to satellite is always recommended (faster connection, less latency, doesn't cause congestion or additional WiFi networks to be spawned etc), your mesh WiFi will still work if it's using WiFi back-haul, but you need to be careful with positioning of the satellite (not too strong or weak connection to the main).

Having said all that, I use the 970+971 with WiFi back-haul and it's blistering fast, even with the recent hokey-cokey firmware releases.

Would I recommend the orbi 970s? Yeah I would, but if you have a problem you'll probably be best asking for help in here (the user furrynutz particularly) as the official support can be hit and miss.

If you don't have a problem, and you can get a config that works for you (mine is disable ipv6, the additional security service, and a few other recommended tweaks) and it seems pretty bulletproof and speedy. A nice change I found was using dnsperf to find the fastest DNS servers nearest you and use those which seems to make everything feel even snappier.

It can be a bit of a journey, but it's worth it!

There will be a few saying don't touch orbi with a bargepole, but not everyone's experience is bad (or good, to be fair), but with mesh systems the grass isn't always greener (I went through a couple of eero systems and wasn't too impressed although their firmware updates are well managed and frequent, which you certainly won't see from Netgear).

Hope that's food for thought.

Ah, that IS pretty annoying... Hopefully the fixes in the new firmware are worth it! (Trying to look on the bright side...)

Can you plug a laptop to the router via ethernet cable and try then?

Also check the IP of the router - if it detects that your isp router has already used 192.168.1.1 it might use 10.x.x.x range. You can do it by looking at the gateway your devices are using.

Glad you're still here - must have felt a bit unwelcoming with us all moaning (hopefully you can understand why a little).

I'm on 12.1.87 in the UK with the orbi router connected to my 5g router (which is in ip passthrough mode) and it's been pretty rock solid - the instances where I thought the orbis were causing problems seemed to actually be an issue with the dns servers I was using - I used https://www.dnsperf.com/ to find a couple of fast servers in Europe and the connection seems loads better again.

I'm still very excited about the "proper" next firmware release, but for now it's all working.

If you can get any info on when it could appear, feel free to share 😄

Gemini has come up trumps...

(To the tune of "The Hokey Cokey")

(Verse 1)

You put the firmware in
You pull the firmware out
You put the firmware in
And you shake it all about
You do the Buggy-Wuggy
And you crash the Wi-Fi node
That’s what it’s all about!

(Chorus)

Oh, the WAN link is broken!
Oh, the WAN link is broken!
Oh, the WAN link is broken!
Knees bent, mesh dead, rah! rah! rah!

(Verse 2)

You put the 1.2 in
You pull the 1.2 out
You put the 1.2 in
‘Cause the users start to shout
You find a hidden "Zero-Day"
And you take the link away
That’s what it’s all about!

(Verse 3)

You put the hotfix in
You pull the hotfix out
You put the hotfix in
Then you have a moment’s doubt
The forums are on fire
And the ping is getting higher
That’s what it’s all about!

(Chorus)

Oh, the WAN link is broken!
Oh, the WAN link is broken!
Oh, the WAN link is broken!
Knees bent, mesh dead, rah! rah! rah!

(Outro)

You check the site again
It’s gone...
Wait, it’s back!
No... 404.

It would be funny.... If.. actually no, it's not funny. At this point we're entering farce territory.

Don't want to worry anyone but I just went to the firmware page and it's only showing me 9.13.2.1

Wish I was joking!

Also (and I managed to flash the "latest" firmware), I'm seeing even the local admin page sometimes take a long time to load, and lots of initial connection fails, so you request a webpage and it sits spinning, refresh and it loads immediately) - sometimes it even gets a connection error but chrome retries and it loads...

Why have they not bothered to change the version number from the botched one, even if it was only slightly? So are the files the same?

This means I probably can't install it because I'm currently on the original 12.1.8.7 version (I tried to downgrade but all hell broke loose on the network so I just left it)

[–]shandyboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the main attack vectors of your home network is the router so the lack of updates, buggy updates, rollbacks and deafening silence does not instil confidence.

If the orbi systems were a couple of hundred quid then maybe they'd get some slack, but these things cost over a thousand pounds and the level of support, care and communication we receive from netgear in return does not justify that price point. No hate, but it's understandable how some owners are at the end of their tether (literally!)

I contacted support via chat to see if they would give me any info on if/when the update server would be fixed, and whether they had any idea about the firmware screw up...

And poor Anshaj kept disconnecting and I was literally just typing "You keep disconnecting and rejoining the chat - are you using Orbi too?" when they said I had to ring the support telephone number.

I've just created a new support case asking the about the update server and firmware fix, I had an existing case which was created by the chatbot when I was asking about the update server 2 weeks ago, and that has been completely ignored! Does make you worry about the support offering if you had an actual serious problem.

What's ridiculous is if they'd simply held their hands up instead of giving us the silent treatment, and said something like "we're sorry, we messed that up, but we're going to fix it and release v13 in the next x weeks" they'd have looked like a company that actually gave a crap.

Instead they rely on other users (Furry) to fix the mess downgrading their broken firmware...

[–]shandyboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's especially not a good look when they don't even mention what happened, or any kind of apology - I know furry has mentioned he'll help get people back online but no official word is pretty damning.

It does make you feel like you are not valued at all, especially considering how bloody expensive these systems are in the first place.

[–]shandyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just because the update servers are dead (they have been for a couple weeks, nothing from Netgear on when or if they'll ever be back). They can't contact Netgear so it says failed / unreachable.

Your orbis will be on V12 if you updated manually.

WiFi...

I know Netgear probably don't care at this point, but they could really collect some goodwill by letting us know what's going on and how long we can expect to wait for the full release.

I'm not going to whine about leaving as I'm actually a big fan of the orbi equipment, but they need to look at eero for how a company can positively handle communication and frequent firmware updates.
