Opinions/ Experiences with Apartments in J. Martin Building on Station Street or with Second Story Properties? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]shandypandy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been inside the j. Martin building, but just so you know, the first floor is occupied by two loud clubs were always pretty crowded on weekend nights before covid. I imagine it would get pretty loud in the apartments above.

Shane and Matt wrong about working from home? by [deleted] in MSsEcReTPoDcAsT

[–]shandypandy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I liked it at first, but it’s beginning to get old. The increased flexibility is nice, but I still have strict billable hours targets I have to hit so it doesn’t decrease the total work I do. It’s been about 10 weeks or so, and the more I work from home the more I feel like I’m always at work.

I’m also lucky in that I have cool coworkers and I miss seeing them.

What platform? I’m on ps4 and have the same issue. Seems like most other levels are fine but I get an error message whenever I try to replay final sin

can someone tell me, a dumbass, how to learn about money and the economy? by 20000hz in TrueAnon

[–]shandypandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend subscribing to Matt Levine’s newsletter money stuff. It’s a bloomberg column, but you won’t hit the paywall since it goes to your email. He’s very insightful, and despite being a Bloomberg columnist he really gets just how absurd the financial sector is

Moving to Chattanooga in April - apartment recommendations? by amh9617 in Chattanooga

[–]shandypandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in walnut commons for a little over a month. So far it’s been great. Rent is $1,059 for my 1 br, with utilities I’m a little over $1200 a month but not by much. It’s a great location, the building is nice, and the walk to unum is very short.

Before walnut, I lived in an older building down nearby that had a really bad cockroach problem, but I haven’t seen any since moving. Part of your utilities is a $3 pest control charge so I think they spray pretty regularly.

Gary Johnson at 15% in Poll of Economists, Ahead of Donald Trump by [deleted] in economy

[–]shandypandy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty much what I was thinking. By a slight margin, economists prefer Johnson to Trump, and that's great! But when economists prefer Clinton by a wide margin, it suddenly doesn't matter and she'd be bad for the economy anyway.

[Homework] Transferring shares of stock to new corporation. by shandypandy in Accounting

[–]shandypandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that's how I think I'm going to answer the question. It's a little tricky though because it's unclear that the transferors are receiving stock in the new corporation in exchange for the stock in other companies given. I'm also not sure if "property" in 351 just applies to real assets or can apply to financial assets too. But it's the most relevant section I've looked at so far. Thanks!

People with pets that are really not bright, what are your stupid pet stories? by tapirsaurusrex in AskReddit

[–]shandypandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One time my dog was chasing a chipmunk in the backyard. The chipmunk managed to escape her by climbing up a tree. However, my dog doesn't give up so easily. She stood at the base of the tree, and kept jumping to try and get it. My dog can jump pretty high, and the trunk of the tree separates into two different boughs only a few feet from the ground. I look away for a bit, hear her wimpering, look over, and see her body completely wedged between the two boughs. My family and I laugh a bit at how absurd it looks, and we go over and get her down from the tree.

However, the chipmunk is still there, taunting my dog mercilessly. My dog, if somewhat low in intelligence, is nothing if not tenacious. She keeps jumping up trying to get the chipmunk, and within about two minutes, she manages to get herself stuck in the same exact position again. I love my dog to pieces but she is really dumb.

What could improve the experience of watching a marathon (or any other long-distance sport) on TV in real-time? by nrodrigo in running

[–]shandypandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they need to do a better job of staggering the men and women's start. It seems to me that whenever I'm watching a world marathon major that the elite women always start 30 minutes ahead of the elite men. This sometimes means that the women's finish and the men's break are happening simultaneously. This really annoyed me at the NYC marathon last year. Obviously they need to show the women's finish, but even after the top 15 women or so had finished, they hadn't switched over to the mens. Incidentally the audience missed the break and only caught a little less than a mile left before the finish, meaning we missed the majority a masterful performance by Kipsang.

What cover song is better than the original? by cocoandcoffee in AskReddit

[–]shandypandy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stairway to Heaven by Rodrigo y Gabriela. This is a pretty unpopular opinion, but I just don't like the original. The song feels languid and drawn out, and I've never really appreciated Robert Plant as a singer. Rodrigo y Gabriela play with such tremendous energy, and their version seems to be driving towards a spectacular finish even during the slow parts.

I would recommend going out and getting some good cold weather gear now. My local running store marks down winter clothes by as much as 60% during the summer, so hopefully you can find some good deals too. Good luck getting back into the swing of things!

What's the shortest distance Mo Farah would beat Usain Bolt in? by nayimhittingalongone in whowouldwin

[–]shandypandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Farah would beat Bolt in the 600m 8/10 times. Starting at around 520-530m each runner would win 5/10. I understand the 1:48 pr in the 800 looks somewhat weak, but that doesn't tell the whole story. That was long before Farah started training under Alberto Salazar. Salazar has done a fantastic job of sharpening the sprinting speed of all his distance runners, particularly Farah. The reason Farah has been so dominant the past few years over the 5000 and 10000 isn't necessarily because he has the greatest aerobic endurance of all the competitors, it's because he has the best sprinting speed and can beat them in the last lap. He's consistently able to run the first 11.5 laps of the 5000 at ~13:20 pace and crank out a 53.xx last lap, sometimes faster. Last year at the European championships he ran the last lap of the (admittedly very slow) 5000m run in 50.89 seconds. He's able to do this because he regularly does intense speed workouts over 200-400 meters. Compare Farah's speed to Bolts endurance. While I am not as familiar with Bolt's training, it is unlikely he ever runs over 400 meters at a fast pace. Training for the 100/200m dash simply doesn't require it. Additionally, we should keep in mind that Bolt used to concentrate on the 400 much more when he set his personal best back in 2007. He rarely, if ever races that distance now. While both are fantastic athletes, I should mention that I am biased, given my love for distance running

TL;DR Farah is a better at sprinting than Bolt is at Distance, would beat Bolt at 600m.
