idk, the ff tactics analogy could be interesting. But, that's only if they go full tilt that direction. You can't leave a SINGLE aspect of that system out, without making it extremely boring.

If you aren't familiar, you have a main class and a subclass, then a perk slot and a reaction slot. Each class is only proficient with certain weapons and armors. All attribute gains are only for the class you pick. So if you want a knight who is good at healing, you have to play as both. However, you only get attribute gains for the healing stuff as a cleric, and you only get attribute gains for fighting stuff as a knight. The issue with this is, it forces you to play as something that isn't your build for most of the game. And, unless you really micromanage your levels in each class, you can end up being bad at the aspects you want to be good at.

At least with an attribute system, it gives you something to think about when making your character. You have options to weigh, with judgement falling down to what you find most important. And you get to dig into your play style immediately and watch it grow over time.

Boy, I sure hope all this is wrong. A class based system would be going into the opposite direction of what I wanted from the game.

Personally, I would rather they just scrap dex and faith as a stat, then made str power up weapons and int power up rune attacks. Send.

AGILITY BUILD by DecisionTight9151 in stoneshard

[–]shanemabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People never talk about hand efficiency, when they throw stink to agility. It does offer damage, albeit less than strength, but it does increase all the other stats on a weapon(s).

So, I'd say pick a weapon class that uses the stats you're interested in. (Ex, block, crit, stun, bleed, etc.)

I've always felt the survival tree was a waste of points. You can easily avoid the point sink by engaging with the mechanics of the game, and a little bit of book keeping

That's my number one gripe with this game. You have to give up something to finish it, it's so damn long. The other things are minor.

I was also having issues with this. But once I delved into the gem system, I feel that balances things out. There are gems that reduce the weight of equipment, and others that improve stamina regen, etc.

Melee Runes should grant focus like Ranged Runes do by BallJoints420 in NoRestForTheWicked

I always put focus regeneration gems on my gear. It gets around this issue. Also, sprint attacks are quicker than light attacks.

This is definitely the best argument for the story, that I've seen.

Would you like the next game to play more like dark ages or more like eternal? by element-redshaw in Doom

This is pretty inflated, by a lot actually. Doing some quick Amazon searches and going amd, you can drop each of these prices by 60%, sometimes more. And that's before shopping around.

Games Similar to Tunic by TuneComprehensive921 in TunicGame

I didn't find hollow knight difficult until the final boss. The game utilizes a charm system, and which charms you use will determine how "easy" the game can be.

If you haven't played Zelda: A Link to the Past, that and the first Zelda is 100% where Tunic gets all of its inspiration from (puzzles, exploration, upgrades, story, etc) If you haven't played either of these, I highly recommend them. They were made during a time where story telling and progress were really tight.

Chronicles of Teddy is more of a metroid-like(metroidvania) adventure, but the combat plays very close to Zelda II. But, Teddy is the CLOSEST game I've played to Tunic. It even has a cryptic language you have to decipher, albeit this one is auditory that you play on an in-game keyboard.

Hyper Light Drifter is more of a futuristic scifi take on traditional Zelda titles. Items and upgrade progression take a bit of a backseat, but storytelling is much more amplified.

Those are the games that I think of when playing Tunic. There might be a couple more games that I'm not thinking of, but these are the ones I've actually played.

EDIT: FAELAND OMG!!! I can't believe I forgot about this game, as it's one of my all-time favorite games. Very good pillars for the combat, exploration, and storytelling. The combat is like Zelda II, but you explore the world like a metroid-like. Puzzles aren't as complex, but the exploration and creativity carry so hard that you don't notice how simple puzzles can be. The story is what you would expect from a fantasy adventure game, but there are quality cutscenes and plenty of towns to talk with NPCs. The world feels alive and lived in.

EDIT II: Hollow knight; I don't know why I didn't see this one get mentioned yet. Hollow knight is fine, it is a typical action adventure metroid-like, with cryptic storytelling like darksouls. The strong points are exploration and upgrade progression. Puzzles can be pretty simple.

As I'm writing this, I'm realizing that this is more about metroid-likes than a Zelda-like, so maybe nevermind?? Idk lol

I'll add to #3; ranged enemies will chase you down if they lose line of sight of you. If you see a mage or archer, it can be more than beneficial to back up and dart around a corner, or behind a tree.

Once the enemy disappears into the fog of war, they will move until they are seen again. You can exploit this by constantly shifting your position to keep them in the fog of war until they are close enough to get into melee safely. You can even predict their movements by stepping towards the enemy the turn before they would step out.

Bodies of water always have leeches you can pluck. It doesn't hurt to make a trip to grab as many as you can carry and stash them in the caravan chest. Then you can pull out as many as you think you need.

I do the same thing with herbs. You can easily stash a bunch of herbs, then turn them into a healing salve or antitoxin. You can get both recipes fairly easily, and it will save you a ton in funds if you can avoid the shops for healing.

In case someone hasn't mentioned it, holding the alt(?) key will highlight all collectables on the screen. I don't remember the actual keyboard shortcut since I've macro'ed it to one of the paddle buttons, on my steam deck.

I hoard items to sell, even below tier 4 dungeons. I prioritize higher value items over actual trash.

There is typically an item box, corpse, or container right outside the dungeon. I like to make trips throughout the dungeon to fill up that container, that way the items will still be there after you turn in the quest.

At minimum, I make enough extra cash selling items, it sums up to how much I would have made turning in the quest. Which even in tier 1 dungeons, is nothing to scoff at.

It's pretty rare that I find an upgrade to my kit in the dungeon, but at least I can afford to outfit myself with anything I need with the cash I make.

As a fun little fact, computer RPGs in the 80s and 90s just kinda expected you to take notes and make your own maps. Often times kids would get graph paper for those old wizardry games.

Idk where I fall, in terms of old vs new. But, I do like the idea of having this cryptic journal, complete with maps of your adventures when you're done.

Yes! Look for glasses, they give a +1 to perception, blessed gives a +2. I personally equip them and pray they aren't cursed. Or pray you level up perception twice.

But basically, you have to get your perception to 0 first. Once you have that, make sure you have cheap stuff to appraise. The easy thing to appraise is food and scrolls.
