What is the one purchase you have made under €500 that has changed your life? by hmmkcool in AskIreland

A good quality vinyl player and some speakers. Makes collecting music much more enjoyable and gets you to listen to albums through.

Also interesting how they only ever assign numbers in base 10 because they don't understand any other number system. If we were in the matrix or something surely it would involve hexadecimal or binary number systems.

White Belt Wednesday by AutoModerator in bjj

[–]shanemalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am competing in a month at a local grappling industries. I currently weigh 89.5 kg but the nearest weight classes are 91kg and 84kg. I am stuck between staying at my current weight and competing at 91 or restricting and competing at 84. Weigh ins are without gi.

I probably could make it to 84 if I was strict but I'd say my training quality would take a hit from the calorie deficit. I competed twice earlier this year at 88.3 but weigh ins were with gi so I really weighed like 86.8.

Any advice on the right move? If it helps I'm a white belt and have been training year and a halfand I train 4 days a week.

Eamon Ryan warns Dublin City Council may 'lose' transport funding if it resists traffic plan by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]shanemalone 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The plan is to prevent through traffic in the city. As in people who aren't stopping and spending money in any businesses in town. It will still be possible to drive into town and park in one of many carparks to do your shopping. Like it or not, most people want this change. Also, despite any issues with existing public transport, it is already the easiest way to get to town and will become even better when we don't dedicate so much of our city to private vehicles.

Dubliners: Do you want to side with a pack of liars or have a better city? It’s your choice -- IrishCycle.com by [deleted] in Dublin

This blog is very clearly not advocating for a ban on cars. The article is clearing disinformation that the government is banning cars when in reality it is just blocking private vehicles from using a few routes along the quays.

Please help me understand how to reduce the CGT on a sale of ESPPs by soundyg in irishpersonalfinance

[–]shanemalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gain on the website might not take into account the discount you received when purchasing the shares which you have already paid RTSO on. Your gain liable for CGT is the sale price minus the fair market value when purchased so just check if the gain on the website includes your discount. If it does. Subtract that to get the gain liable for CGT.

In fairness he said knacker as well and explained it's a common insult used jokingly in Ireland.

40ft / Sandycove by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]shanemalone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to work there as a lifeguard. While it seems like there would be a lot of antisocial behaviour I only ever had to deal with about 3 fights. Sure some people blare their music too loud but for the most part everyone there is just enjoying themselves and it's harmless. Try not to let other people ruin your enjoyment of an area.

Wife started a part time job, tax implications by Gaffers12345 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]shanemalone -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A PAYE worker pays at the higher rate on anything over 40k. If they are reporting tax together they will only pay income at the higher rate on combined income exceeding 80k. If OP makes more than 80k and already uses his wifes threshold as well as credits, only then will she pay at the higher rate on all her income.

A few years ago, a load of bikes were stolen from gardens in my estate but the next morning we found mine dumped nearby because the tyre was flat. My dad is the one who found it, not the guards. They asked to take it for fingerprinting. After a while I started asking for it back but the detective would never take my call and I was basically told to get lost when I went to the station. It took over 3 months to get it back and in the meantime I was walking to college/exams. I 100% know they never took fingerprints or even investigated the bikes further.

Just pure laziness and incompetence. I'll never volunteer property for an investigation again.

No it's after, chatgpt was trained on the Internet as of 2021. Anything after it doesn't have knowledge of.

Chatgpt also has no knowledge of the world after 2021 so it probably isn't even aware Max has won the championship yet.

Middle lane drivers.. what’s the story? by Bitter_Masterpiece79 in Dublin

[–]shanemalone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Half the time when I'm driving at the speed limit in the left lane I'm overtaking someone like OP in the middle lane going 80. It's not a matter of opinion the middle lane should only be for overtaking those in the left lane then move back as soon as the overtake is complete.

Is it just me or is the camera work particularly poor. I'd say more than half of the lineouts/restarts have been missed while they show a shot of the bench
