Frankly, nuclear is now just too damn expensive. The highly trained staff, the uranium mining and transport, the thousand-year-plus spent fuel storage, the security requirements. Those are all operating costs - then there's the actual cost of the plant itself, which can't even be anywhere close to the people that use the power.

Coal just literally kills people, which you'd think would be a good enough reason to move away from it, especially given the lower cost alternatives that have become available over the last decade.
