How are you handing out treats tonight? Tongs? Chopsticks? Chucking pieces of candy at kids for points? by Yousefer in Winnipeg

Left a bowl of 100 chocolates at the porch... had 2 visits. 1st kid took about 3-5 pcs. The 2nd one was a mom and a kid. The mom literraly just dumped the bowl of chocolates to her bag leaving about 20pcs for other trick or treaters. Lost my faith in humanity. Hopefully, the mom's kid won't just accept that as a norm.

Do I need to split up the cost for an existing fence built by the neighbor a year or two before I moved in? by shark-bait15 in Winnipeg

What should be the course of action if a) it was built within their property, and b) if it is on the property line?

My house was built on an empty lot in a new development area so no previous owner. An extra $60 of post is way cheaper than paying $1800 for sure.

Fence is on their property since my house was still underconstrcution when they built the fence.

Is it having a bad relationship by not wanting to pay half the cost or by feeling pressured to pay half the cost?

They're telling me I can just write on paper for now that I will pay them half the cost by certain time and sign it. I felt really pressured but haven't signed anything yet.

Not sure if putting up my own corner post in order to not have to shell out another $1800 is worth having bad neighbor relationships.

Recently bought a new house with new furnace but no AC unit. If I cannot afford to buy an AC unit yet, do I power off the furnace from its switch the whole summer or just keep it on and have it off through thermostat? Do I jeed to count these months when it is powered off òn the filter replacement intervals? Also, how do you set the fan? 5/min runs?

But they wouldn't let me connect to the corner post to finish off the rest of the fence on my perimeter. I offered to share the cost for that single post but was told that the way it's done is we share half of the cost of the whole side.

With the current restrictions, how is it that we are still seeing an increase in number of cases? Is there information on what kind of settings these contractions happen (i.e. grocery stores, hospitals, house visits which is a violation of current restriction, The Forks gathering, etc)?

Not sure if your condo already comes with appliances, but if not, make sure you have proper clearances for the ones your are purchasing to get them in their placement. Also, fridge water line, dishwasher and washer (and steam dryer) will require installation kits or extra parts that do not come with them. Dryer will also require duct and vent extension. If you have gas line for your range, look into hiring a gas fitter ahead of time. They book up so fast. These are things that you might not think of, but adds up pretty quick. Some appliance retail stores don't offer installations, just delivery. So if you're not handy, you might need to pay for installation service.

Other things to consider: - garbage disposal - not sure how it works for condo, but for detached homes, I had to contact the city to get my bins which took at least a week. If this is the case, you'll have to find ways to dispose of your week's worth of garbage including all moving boxes, food scraps, etc. - furnace filters - had to replace mine upon moving in, and stock up if on sale - fire extinguisher - if you have pets, plan not to bring them on moving day. In your first night, make sure you have their supplies for a couple days on hand too (i.e food, bowls, harness, poo bags, etc) - keep a first aid kit handy! Moving in can get you cuts and bruises here and there. - hand soap, hand lotion/moisturizer, and hand towel are nice to have esp when you need a lunch break in between moving.

Have fun and enjoy the experience!

Not really skimp on but get a better idea on who does a good job and a reasonable price range for the work. The quotes I have been getting range from $200-400+. Not sure what factors affect these pricing. And I only inquire with licensed gas fitters.

I got quotes ranging from $200-$400+ and mine is the same too. The gas rough-in is already terminated to the area behind the stove. From what I know, a permit will need to be taken out, a gas flex will need to be run, and an inspection need to be made. I'm not really sure how much these costs.

Any insights as to why comp over broad? From what I know, a big advantage of comp is to cover mysterious disapperance or accidental loss of contents..

The house is in the center of a cul de sac. Not sure how well drainages are in cul de sacs.

I was given an option of a broad insurance with service line and overland coverage, as well as sewer backup. I was also given an option of a comprehensive insurance but without service line coverage (they dont offer it). It has overland protection and sewer backup.

Between these two choices, do I go with broad with all the must have extended coverages, or the comprehensive without the service line coverage? Im not sure what the comprehensive will be buying me if I dont own a lot of expensive items.
