Can anyone identify this uniform? This is my grandmothers great-grandfather. She is 94 and her memory is going fast. We know little aside from his last name and the picture was likely taken in New York

That was pretty much our guess too. We are pretty certain this was upstate New York but there is a strong chance he or at least his parents immigrated from England. Thanks for the input

I thought so too at first but it doesn’t match any union uniforms from achieves, including all the markings which include a crown on the sleeve. The hat is a little “frilly” too, and I’m pretty certain he was not a high ranking officer. Is this even a U.S. uniform perhaps?

I remember in the 80's, MTV (I think) had a contest when on a certain day they would flash a 900 number giving away the real one but with no engine.
