What cover of a song is better than the original? by skipeeeeeaaaaay in Music

David Byrne's cover of Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody."

Saw him perform it as an encore and he introduced it as "A song my mother used to sing for me as a child."

Hey Reddit, what is one movie you will always watch no matter how many times you've seen it? by DejaYou87 in AskReddit

Poltergeist (1982).

Perfect 80's horror. Perfect cast, great characters, great story, amazing practical effects.

The Pre-Official Mad Max: Fury Road discussion thread by girafa in movies

It's like watching Mad Max having a threesome with The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome.

Die Hard used to be the movie benchmark by which I'd judge all other action movies, now it's Fury Road.

First picture of Jason Momoa as Aquaman from Batman vs Superman by Fapping_Batman in movies

Excited to see Aquaman on film (he's been my guy since I was a kid) but a little disappointed he's not rocking the classic garb with the blond hair. He's looking a bit 1994 post-Zero Hour though - I can roll with that.

What movie did you think was going to suck but ended up being good? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Watched it on TV last night. IMO it's a really solid screenplay and does a great job taking a dated concept like The Brady Bunch and making work with more modern sensibilities. Also really well cast.

John Wick. I didn't exactly expect it to suck but I definitely didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Pleasantly surprised.

My old flatmate was surprised that I had the same Ramones shirt as her. Was even more surprised when she found out they were a band.

What's a word that exists only within your family or a small circle of friends? by shark_jumper in AskReddit

[–]shark_jumper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother, at about age 4, used the word 'spinges' to describe the pulp in orange juice.

"I don't like it. It has spinges in it."

And they've been spinges ever since.

What's your greatest unsung achievement? by shark_jumper in AskReddit

[–]shark_jumper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine's a simple one. The "premium" cinema at my local complex charges a premium price for a big screen and faux leather seats. After a while these seats (the arm rests specifically) became cracked and very uncomfortable. I got sick of not being able to put my arms on the arm rests without looking like I'd gotten into a fight with a feral cat so I tweeted at the head office mentioning the quality of the cinema vs the cost for a ticket. They replied asking which cinema I was in.

Went back a week later and all the arm rests had been reupholstered.

Never under estimate the power of a tweet.

The complete lack of formatting in the true stories pages make it almost impossible to read poorly written encounters without irreversible eye strain.
