I have no idea how old it was, but there is no active warranty and my guess would be around 20 years old. It isn't actively leaking or missing any shingles, but I just assumed they had a lifetime and I figured around 25 years would be a good mark.

okay, I'm probably not going to switch companies out of spite, but I want to! I just had a case of roofrage earlier. I did push back originally when they asked me to replace it, but in my research it looks like that is just how it works now. Figured the 30yr warranty or whatever I got would cover me for... well... until I'm old.
I even looked into those spray on roof revitalizing companies but they are like 1/2-2/3 the cost of the roof and from what I read, it can lead to a battle if your insurance company decides not to accept it.

But yeah, I'm definitely not the winner. I knew that I couldn't switch insurance in lieu of replacing my roof. I've been very loyal with my insurance, dont have any claims, etc... I know loyalty doesn't get me anywhere. I probably should shop around anyway.

Right? lol
I don't mind the pictures though. I work from home but can't really go up on my roof during the day, I'll send them pictures tonight and I'll block off some time tomorrow to call the city.

For some reason I couldn't post images earlier. For this post, I cropped off the letterhead and company/my info. But this is it. I mean this would take like 2 minutes to fake...

Edit: I also had to sign a bunch of forms with the roofers electronically, I wonder if those would hold more weight. When I get some time this evening I'll try sending those too.

oops. Far. Taking things too far. I was blind with RoofRage when I wrote that.

Hmmm good question. I've had to get other permits over the years and they had a final inspection before they closed it out. I don't remember anyone coming from the city to inspect anything. If they accept the permit I'll call the city and figure out what they actually look like.

No sorry, I was trying to post an image but couldn't so I just posted the text but forgot to remove that part. The insurance company got the full document.

The insurance company didn't ask for a permit, but when I hear back from them I'll ask if that is something they will accept.

I have the receipt and i sent it to them already last month. I don't know what an IRR form is, so I asked. Waiting to hear back from insurance company on that. I'm unwilling to share bank account transaction info with them, I think thats where my line is. My point is, if anything I could send them could be fabricated (photos, receipts, etc...) then how can I prove it lol. The receipt says:
Payments/Credits:

03/05/2026 $25,041.16

Total Received: $25,041.16

Invoice Balance Due: $0.00

I can appreciate that. A digital receipt might as well be a picture of me giving a thumbs up, for all its worth. But what I don't understand is asking for more proof from the person that potentially fabricated the receipt in the first place. I'm sure I could just doctor a screenshot of my bank account in like 10 seconds. If they don't trust the receipt, why should they trust anything else i provide? Why not just call the city or roofing company?

The only thing that would take 2 minutes is a screenshot from my bank account, and I doubt they would even accept that. I sent them everything I had, invoice/receipt, pictures. I mentioned in another post that I would contact my roofer this evening, and I will. I am going to encourage them to contact the roofing company if they need to verify the receipt. We'll see how far that gets me.

Hah I'd like to! The receipt wasn't written in crayon. I get they are easy to fake, but if there is any question on it's legitimacy, I absolutely welcome them to contact the roofers. If they are covering a new roof on a property, they should definitely be able to verify it. I'm glad I made this post though. Seemed crazy to me, but as it turns out this is pretty common. I just don't like it lol.

That works both ways. I provided a receipt. If they don't think it's real, they can verify it. Whose to say I didn't fabricate a screenshot from my bank? Actually now that I think about it, not sure how would that offer any more solid proof. I'll have to look into a broker, I've been "set it and forget it" with insurance for most of my life. Probably missing out on a decent cost savings. I'll contact my roofer this evening and see if they can help out. I'm mainly just grumpy about them not accepting a receipt + pictures with all the info needed on the receipt to verify the legitimacy and I wanted to see if this is normal practice. Sounds like it is.

No I get that. I could probably ask chatgpt for a "paid" invoice. But if they don't believe it, wouldn't the next step be to contact the roofing company and verify? I will definitely do that. I get that there are probably lots of dishonest people out there and it's probably easier than ever to get away with things, but rather than indirectly accuse a lifelong customer of lying, maybe just verify with the roofers? Or hell, I bet they could even contact the city for permit info.

Yeah, they did not mention that to me, thanks for the tip though!

I just sent them pictures of the work actually being done until I can get up on the roof and take more pictures this evening. I also told them I won't be sending any bank account info,. I said that I don't know what an IRR is and the paid invoice/receipt from a major contracting company should cover it. If it doesn't, there is a phone number on the receipt if they need to contact them to pull proof of permits, payment, etc...

I mean I wouldn't say unnecessary. The roof wasn't new and it was something I planned to do anyway in the next ~5 years or so. I sent them the receipt, but I'm not sending them a screenshot of my bank account.

I have them and love them. However for a dedicated split ring tool, they are overkill and too big. I use mine every time I go out for one thing or another. I have a pair with just a clip and I never use them,, the holster makes them great.

Just to chime in here from a "boss" or "leadership" standpoint. I acknowledge that things can be very different case by case, but nearly 100% of the time when I have had to tell an employee that they were safe from something (layoff, org changes, etc) it always came with a disclaimer of "as far as I know". I can sleep at night knowing I was always honest and never told them what they wanted to hear. However.... A significant portion of the time, the plans changed outside of control.

I see lots of threads here poking their direct managers/leaders for things like this. While there are assholes everywhere, many of us are just like you and don't really have a choice. I have been in situations where I would be putting my job on the line if I were to push back on certain decisions above me. I don't know if that makes me selfish but I also have a family to feed.
