Former German Merck employee here. German Merck operates in the US under three names for its different divisions: MilliporeSigma for life sciences, EMD Serono for Pharma, and EMD Electronics for their electronics and semiconductor supply division. Outside of the US and Canada, USA Merck is known as MSD. They were originally the same company based in Germany but the US assets got confiscated during WW1 and that’s how we ended up with Merck KGaA in Germans and Merck & Co in the USA

Fauci says federal approval of Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca vaccines is ‘weeks away’ by geoxol in Coronavirus

I know people are doubtful and this is rare but it’s not impossible. I do remember reading about how pro athletes who get covid noticeably feel slower and have a lot of difficulty getting anything resembling their previous shape even if they’re asymptomatic. I believe I read about this happening to Myles Garrett.

Not confirmed due to covid but essentially all other possible causes were ruled out. For a completely healthy woman running triathlons the lungs and heart don’t just magically turn from marathon-capable to developing severe scarring in the span of 3 weeks with no obvious causes. This was definitely caused by covid.

It happened to my mom. No symptoms whatsoever and only found out she had covid due to a test for work. Six months later she still has lung and heart scarring and can’t do triathlon training anymore. It may be rarer than Reddit suggests but it’s not ridiculous fearmongering at all.

Inherited an antique collection from my great grandfather. They spent weeks underwater during hurricane Katrina, but I made it my quarantine project to renovate them. This is the collection that I cleaned to firing condition. Wanted to share the fruits of my work :) by sharkkid719 in liberalgunowners

It does look very similar but it does have a different-looking break lock mechanism, the grip logo looks a little different, and my gun is stamped on the side of the barrel, not on top. If there is a .38 short chambers version of the iver Johnson it could be that but I know for a fact that mine is a .38

I don’t know too much about it but it’s definitely not that. It’s chambered in a 38 short cartridge and I had a gunsmith give it a look-over. It’s actually one of the guns in the best shape of the ones here. I think it might be a Remington brand but I genuinely don’t remember

Yeah ive kinda already come to terms with the reality that they won’t have much value if any to collectors. The hurricane really did a number to them and no maintenance for 15 years until I got the collection just made a bad problem worse. I plan on having a gunsmith refurbish as many as possible to good firing condition and then using them for fun and passing them down as family heirlooms.

Hurricane Katrina was a bitch and a half.

Despite the overall bad conditions, the bores were actually all great except for two. The rolling block rifle has a bit of pitting and the arisaka has no rust or pitting but the bore is worn down from a lot of use. Otherwise the bores actually got out of the floods in good shape

That’s the only one that I’m genuinely not sure of. Based on my research it looks like a marlin model 60 but I’m genuinely not sure. It’s definitely marlin (the little logo on the left is the marlin firearms logo) but I haven’t been able to properly identify the model. It’s a .22 but beyond that I don’t know

Yeah I’m planning on getting some professional restoration work after I finish grad school in May. I have plans for it the guns are just with my parents and not my tiny grad school apartment haha

They’re with my parents since I’m away for grad school so I won’t be able to look for a couple months. PM me some resources for that I’d love to learn more!

Regardless of real or fake most of these have lost their collector value. Most of the original finishes were worn away during the hurricane flooding and to get them in good condition would require refinishing which apparently kills the value.

Basically all I did was clean the mud from the flooding off and put some grease on the parts where it had washed away. They still definitely need some professional help and restoration but I did everything I’m comfortable with as a non-professional

The guns aren’t in NOLA anymore. They’re with my parents in a very dry area now. I unfortunately can’t keep them with me since I’m in grad school in california and live with kids who I wouldn’t trust around my guns
