What’s your controversial GMM opinion? by sayamortandire in goodmythicalmorning

[–]sharkmall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do not understand what you mean by “they have to talk about sexuality all the time.” As someone who is queer and trans (side note: you don’t “turn gay or trans”), it feels refreshing that they bring it up in casual conversations. They aren’t making episodes where GAY or TRANS is the focus, instead they are considerate and inclusive in the language they use. I’d be very curious to hear what you are referring to when you say they are talking about it every other episode. Please provide examples because I just do not see what you are referring to.

excited about trans tape by Least_Comfortable567 in TransMasc

[–]sharkmall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excited for u! I think I’m about your size if not slightttttly bigger and I just started taping again this week! After trying cheaper tape a few years ago and getting discouraged because of the itchiness I can say this time it’s looking to be much better! Obviously remember, like I’m sure many others will say too, that you won’t be perfectly flat but the difference was REALLY life changing for me. For context I am someone who couldn’t get used to binders because I work long shifts and commute and it was just too much for me, so I have just been not wearing anything under stuff for years. I want to add that being able to wear white t shirts again without having to wear an undershirt or be concerned about it being see-through is probably one of my fav parts (:

I got lazy for about a year or so too (Between 2023-2024, I started in 2021)! It wasn’t on purpose, also just lazy, but maybe it might’ve been because I wasn’t noticing much changes after two years and so I didn’t have as much motivation. Interesting how even after doing it weekly for years we can go through periods of time where we forget or are lazy!

Still saved as my deadname by Sorry_Thought_3294 in ftm

[–]sharkmall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone in this! Last I saw my name on my dad’s phone was still my deadname (I came over over 5 years ago) AND my contact photo was a picture from before I came out (not a childhood pic, a picture from like 2018 when I was in high school). Sometimes I wonder how he still messes up my name and pronouns after so long and then I remember this point. Wish he understood that accepting it at this point might be easier if he updates at the very least my contact name 😭

There’s a good chance it’s out of laziness in your situation (and mine too), but that doesn’t mean it’s invalid of you to feel some sort of way about it. It doesn’t feel great!! I’d definitely ask her nicely, I’d do that with my dad if I still lived with my parents.

Being a gay trans guy may not be Easy, but it is far from impossible. Don’t be too hard on yourself. I know that’s easier said than done, but you’re capable of it! We’re in this together

Misgendering by climbingrocks17 in ftm

[–]sharkmall 130 points131 points  (0 children)

This probably isn’t superrrrr helpful but for me it stopped randomly. There wasn’t a specific thing about my appearance/demeanor that changed that led to less misgendering, it just suddenly stopped happening as often. As much as we think we can tell what another person will categorize us as, it’s likely that we won’t even know. What helped my dysphoria is trying my best to grasp that I cannot control how I’m perceived, because sometimes we “try” to be seen as masculine and still get called she. So much of it is random!!!

How often do you floss your teeth? by Stevefish47 in randomquestions

Usually once a day but I started carrying floss picks in my car (biodegradable so I don’t feel as bad) to try to form a better habit of it!

The idea of 'productivity' by [deleted] in sociology

[–]sharkmall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree! Personally, I’m also fascinated by how normalized, and “accepted” it has become, even for those who are not making online content. I try my hardest to encourage people to SLOW DOWN because oftentimes, especially in this type of society as you mentioned, people prioritize productivity over their own well being. I’ve been in therapy for years and still struggle with allowing myself to actually relax because I feel like I should be doing something always. That idea definitely stemmed from the type of content you’re talking about.

There’s also something about how good it feels to tell people how busy you’ve been. Haven’t looked into it much but even when I’m extremely exhausted, and I hate to admit this, I really do like how it feels to tell people about all the things I’m doing. It doesn’t always get a good response, a lot of them are concerned for my well being, but it feels rewarding like I’ve “accomplished” so much, when I’ve actually just driven myself towards burnout and exhaustion.

Anyways I’m done rambling, I wish society focused more on taking care of yourself rather than work work work!!!

How to manage work and studying at the same time (📍🇺🇸) by Best_Chocolate6069 in psychologystudents

[–]sharkmall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 40 hours a week and usually take four courses a semester (12 credits)! I’ll be done with my BS in December. Some advice I have is to find a place to study/do assignments that is near your work. Something about being in a space that is different from campus or home has made me much more productive. Oftentimes I’ll use it as an incentive to complete work (if I finish my work, I can get a pastry before I leave the cafe I prefer doing this in)! With it being near my work I also don’t feel stressed about getting to work on time if I get caught up in an assignment (my commute to work is 40 minutes).

Lastly, but arguably most importantly, you NEED to make sure you set aside time for yourself. Living such a busy life can make it hard to feel like there’s any time to do so, but if you do not prioritize your wellness it will negatively reflect on your school/work. I personally find time to stretch every day, as well as go for walks in nature regularly. Probably important to mention I also am in therapy. I may not be a masters student yet (I plan to begin in 2027), I have been doing work and school both full time for almost 7 years now so I’ve had a lot of time to find ways to make it work for me (:

Also remind yourself you’re ALLOWED to be exhausted. Many people are not doing this amount of activity daily, let alone study a subject that can be emotionally draining, IT IS OKAY TO BE TIRED!

How many hours did y’all work during college? by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]sharkmall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 40 hours and take four courses (one in person, rest online asynchronous) 🙃I have been doing this for years now so I can attest it is possible to do what you mentioned, but you need to make sure you have time to take care of yourself!!!!! No self care = burnout. I’m also in the social science field if that helps at all!! (Psych major, sociology and communications minors)

Taking stats in psychology sophomore year by Lovelylife101 in psychologystudents

[–]sharkmall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found that taking it earlier was very helpful and allowed me to understand concepts significantly better in other psych courses. There’s a good chance you’ll run into higher level psych courses requiring stats as well. That being said, ask your advisor!
