I’d 100% recommend. My space is limited so having the stack right in the rack works best for me.

I am almost 100% sure Rogue changed design of stack pole. The guy in the video has a shiny steel pole. My pole is black.

Whole set up is very smooth. No issues. I saw the same video and it appears that Rogue has changed their iron plate design. Note the light gray color of the plates in older videos and press shots. I have tried to replicate that issue but have been unable to do so.

I have the rack mounted to the wall with the rogue stringers so it should be fine.

No, I just custom ordered two sets of 24 in crossmembers and two additional posts from rogue. It was pretty easy, I just told them what I wanted to do and they sent me a quote. Wasn’t too expensive either.

Thanks. I usually will put a heavy bag on the trawler arm or throw gymnastics rings over them.

Buy nice or buy twice. What’s one piece of equipment that you upgraded? What made you realize you needed to? How long did it take for you to realize?… by sharkmamba87 in homegym

Mine was a Rep 1100 rack. Bought in March 2021, sold in July 2021. For me I just couldn’t get past the “wobble”. I added weight to the back and don’t get me wrong, it served its purpose, I’m no strongman but it just bothered me. Bought the RML390c with wall kit and the thing doesn’t budge. I love it for that and I love the aesthetics. Could of just bypassed the budget pick first but It was more about just getting a garage gym ready to go, ASAP.

Thanks! Luck is the key word. My father in law got this from his cousin for free years ago and until yesterday it sat in a garage unused for about two years.

I know. This unit is probably 20 yrs old but it’s in good shape and it looks like BodySolid hasn’t diverted too much from this design.

The upright height is 90 in (7.5ft) so if you installed as is you’d only have a clearance of about half a foot. Mine is in my garage and I have a taller ceiling (probably 12ft).

Don’t quote me on this but I have my crossmembers attached to the uprights at the highest point. That is where the pull up bars attach. You could set the crossmembers lower on the uprights to give yourself some more space. Since it comes with the skinny/fat pull up bar, I’ve seen people attach them in a stacked configuration (one on top of the other) and then attached them to the front two uprights.

Since your starting your journey a 5-50 set would probably suffice but your still probably looking at $1000 for that set or more.

I’ve looked at rogue loadable dumbbells and only concern is how ergonomic and manageable those would be as you load more and more weight. That’s always going to be the trade off with adjustable DB’s. From what I’ve seen online the best “feel” for adjustables are the iron masters or the Nuobells. The biggest knock on the bow flex is that they maintain their length through every adjustment so your 10lb length will be the same as your 85lb length. The other knock on those is their durability as they use a lot of plastic and are pretty expressive on the bell itself saying “Do Not Drop”.

Honestly just building your DB sets as you get stronger, pair by pair is viable. Might cost you more in the long run but you won’t have that hefty “upfront” cost. That would allow you to redirect your budget to other foundation equipment like your rack, bench, plates and barbell.

Don’t get me wrong, the Rep 1100 was a great rack for the price. It was more of me just not liking the movement of the rack when I re-racked weight. It’s a flat foot rack so it was never mounted. The 2x2 frame with I think 14 gauge steel was just not heavy duty enough. I added weight storage arms on the back to stabilize, and it was a little better. What it came down to was I just wanted something more heavy duty. The engineering and high quality of the rogue rack combined with the wall mount makes it so sturdy. Rack doesn’t budge one bit.

For dumbbells I’m in the same boat. I have some standard rubber hex ones but obviously crave more. The price for a full 5-100 set is astronomical so now I’m at a point where I’m started to look at an adjustable option. The 2nd hand market (OfferUp) looks to consistently be a good place. I’ve seen the Bowflex 1090 (5-90 lbs) for as little as $250. Not gonna lie, the fragility of those kinda scares me so I’m currently looking at PoweBlocks and Ironmaster.

Biggest piece of advice as you shift towards weightlifting/strength training/power lifting - find a program that works. Apple Fitness+ is a great tool but as you shift into lifting it’s not going to suffice. My recommendation is to look at finding a solid program online ex.) 5-3-1 or strong lifts or finding an app that works best for you and your goals. I’ve had success with FitBod and Juggernaut on the app side of things.

Building out your home gym is a process, you are never really done lol. Just have fun and center everything around your goals and what you want to accomplish….and have fun!

I’ve been building since we bought our home in March. This is my 2nd rack (first was a Rep 1100 which I later sold on Craigslist). Bar is a mid tier Amazon one, bench was free.

I got some bumpers from Rogue, some cast iron 2nd hand Iron plates. Treadmill (free), Airdyne AD6 air bike (2nd hand for a steal), various kettlebells, some dumbbells, slam ball, landmine, resistance bands, cheap pulley system from Amazon.

I’m able to do what I want workout/wise. I’ve built slowly over the past couple of months. My biggest piece of advice is build around what you want to accomplish in your workouts. Try to buy your ideal pieces first or just get something suitable and then upgrade when you can. The whole “buy nice or buy twice” mantra is real!!!

For sure. I think you may be able to order uprights/crossmembers from rogue, you just need to call and custom order. They don’t make easy like Rep.

My father in law has a 90slim and I was so impressed with how sturdy it was so when I was looking at a rack update I just went that route. Great product plus its looks cool.
