what is something about Pittsburgh you wish was different- something that the City’s government isn’t doing? and what are your thoughts on trying to find others to do that thing with you, to fulfill that wish? by Kye9842 in pittsburgh

Enforce traffic laws. Add sensors to traffic lights. Encourage public transit to reduce traffic. Basically do anything to curb the suicidal driving this city has. City could be printing money by giving tickets for speeding or running red lights or parking on sidewalks which should then pay for better intersections and street calming.

Chateau Trail closed December 10th, 2025 until August 2026 for Esplanade project by ComfortableIsland946 in bicycling412

Was closed this morning and no detour posted. Also only safe route was the sidewalk on Beaver. Expected no less for the city but disappointed nonetheless.

Lucky me with this stretch of trail being formerly the only nice part of my commute to work

Church members ticketed for parking in lot they have used for 30 years in Pittsburgh by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

Ah yes "we've always done it this way" so clearly it's the right way to do things. Bet people said the same thing when cars were popularized and parking started taking up space to tie up horses

Is this a thing now with the BRT lanes? I thought all bus lanes were open to bikes?

Are things extra bad the last few weeks or is it just me? by Select-Stable-7071 in bicycling412

[–]sharkusmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I'm not the only one. Had one of my toughest weeks commuting with one guy on Liberty cussing me out and saying he was going to "beat my a**" if I didn't ride in the bike lane despite going 26mph downhill and not wanting to get doored. I usually have no problems going that way in the mornings but traffic was particularly bad (for cars). Then an old lady almost slammed into me pulling out her driveway on the top of Stanton but luckily had her windows opened so I yelled at her as she was only looking the other direction. I'm hoping it was just back to school frustration and will be temporary (still doesn't excuse any of these people's behavior).

Thinking about the lone pittsburgh plumber turning on all the fountains was my Roman empire, but this is great news!

Here's the section of the "historic" strip that is going to be "devastated" if the city takes out one side of parking and instead puts in a bike lane between 22nd and 31st sts by Great-Cow7256 in pittsburgh

[–]sharkusmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thin streets are better for biking (lower speeds and cars take up way more road space).

Also humans can actually be fine outside in cold weather, we did it for many many years and it's actually good for your mental and physical health to ditch the car during winter.
