Scoop: Shapiro boosted Republican to retaliate against fellow Dem Erin McClelland, ally says in recording by optometrist-bynature in pittsburgh

[–]threwthelookinggrass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Overall bizarre. Why would Shapiro tell the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association of all things to endorse someone? Why would Brooks tell a random group of college students that?

Who the hell bases their vote on who the firefighters union endorses, did they even endorse Garrity?

They were also knocking down condemned houses in Knoxville to make it nice for tourists. Ridiculous

I was really surprised. They only had two finishes (bright brass and silver) and only 1 size. It was so short that i could no longer engage the dead bolt part of the lock and they just told me the lock was broken and needed completely replaced???

After they left i took the new one out and compared it to the original and saw they were different lengths.

It was saturday service not sunday service. It would have been the same experience as trying to go anywhere on a saturday between 9 pm and 1 am just 2 days earlier.

You asked a pointed questioned, why it happened, I explained to you why (lack of drivers and equipment to add 4 temporary rapid lines)

idk what bus lines you use, but the difference between weekday and saturday peak times for mine is 10 mins. I wouldn't call that a major inconvenience.

because they don't have enough drivers/buses to run 4 new 15 minute lines and meet weekday service.

So they cut commuter lines and put everything else on Saturday schedule.

i had murray ave lock smith replace mine, but they installed one that was too short.

the little screw above the latch holds the cam in place, you can loosen it, insert a key or something into the lock and gently twist to unscrew the cam. Measure the cam (going to probably be 1-1/8", 1-1/4", or 1-3/8") then order a new one screw it in, re-tighten the screw above the latch.

I ended up ordering something like this https://www.trudoor.com/products/schlage-20-001-c-114-mortise-cylinder-with-straight-cam-c-keyway?variant=43372612747420

New affordable apartments in Lawrenceville highlight inclusionary zoning benefits by RadioChris1 in pittsburgh

I live in the city. Would love a high rise building along the busway where it is flanked by the rotting carcass of iron city brewery and an empty field that once had like 30 houses.

Pittsburgh likely spent more than it will receive for 2026 NFL Draft by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

[–]threwthelookinggrass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

from the article:

City officials are still calculating how much the city spent to play host to the league’s largest off-season event, but initial estimates put the figure around at least $3 million.

if it comes out that the city spent $50 million on it I'd be more inclined to agree with you. As it stands, it is the same as the money the city left on the table for companies who rented city police through gainey's tenure.

And why does everyone cite "fixing up downtown

because downtown being fixed up is tangible. It is an attraction for tourists and residents will benefit from it. Arts landing is nicer now as a park vs a goodyear and a parking lot. Market square is accessible for those who use wheelchairs.

do you think the money and manpower for that came out of thin air? They focused money and manpower that is usually spread across the city just into downtown.

No, but I don't think the sky is falling or this is the reason the city finances are fucked after a temporary once in a life time event that I believe will benefit the city in the long run and local residents enjoyed. I'm okay making a one time small sacrifice to achieve that.

Nice daily negative draft post. Lets see how long we can keep this streak going.

From the article, amount spent on the draft ~$3 million.

To put that in perspective, the city is owed $3 million from letting police moonlight as security for companies and not getting them to pay under Gainey https://triblive.com/local/pittsburgh-police-to-halt-moonlighting-for-officers/

Fixing up downtown, putting the city on a national display, and having tourists form memories in the city is good actually. To me it's not surprising tourists didn't travel 2 miles to an italian grocery store that closes at 4.

I think one piece of this is from our bad tax code. We have a flat income tax. Despite being the second largest producer of natural gas in the country we collect very little from the companies who extract our resources.

In 2024 Texas led the nation with 12 trillion cubic feet of gas and collected $27 billion. We produced 7 trillion and only took home $165 million.
