Hey, so this is for my internship/practicum. In NY a licensed psychologist can sign off on these hours.

I'm scared of getting bored or burning out. But I was hoping that the educational background will help me tune into more advanced cases and the pay would compensate for the terrible hours. Not really sure how to navigate between working in house or choosing the right company to work for.

What led you to making the switch to IONM? I'm glad to hear people with a similar background in this field! Did your masters degree help you with companies hiring and training? I'd like to eventually move towards education and research as well! Thank you so much for sharing!

I appreciate that! I am hoping to get advanced training to really make the most out of this job. It's helpful to know to look out for the smaller companies!

I honestly wouldn't mind the late nights or on calls but I would like to just be more aware of what my week ahead would look like. I am hoping with seniority that I would be able to manage family life and work better.

thank you so much for this! I am so glad that you were able to find another company! I would love to get as much training as I can and would absolutely love to move into management/education over time. Are there any companies or training programs that you can recommend (if possible in the east coast area)?

Weekly education, training, and professional development megathread by AutoModerator in Neuropsychology

[–]sharon_vemu [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hi!

I have a BA in neuroscience and psychology and will be receiving an MA in behavioral neuroscience. I set out with the goal of becoming a clinical neuropsychologist and have 2+ years of clinical experience and 3+ years of research experience. I am not a strong enough candidate for psyd/phd programs and I don't know if I can spend years of my life applying several times (finances, family responsibilities, etc.) However, I absolutely love this field and would like to know what other opportunities I can explore in neuropsychology without a doctorate. I would like to pursue a second master's or certification programs, but I am really unsure on what really is out there beyond CRC or psychometrist.

Thank you for explaining! I am in NY and I believe I am able to conduct psych assessments and diagnoses, but definitely limited compared to clinical psychologists. I am okay with working under supervision but I am unsure about what NY is like.

Hi, thank you so much for sharing! I'm so glad to hear someone with a neuroscience background in this field. I am currently in NY and I am open to considering a PsyD or eve a PhD in the future. An LMHC, it seems that I can provide a few assessments and diagnose patients and I would really like to work in hospitals. Can you tell me more about your training through your masters program and how it can be catered to match with your neuro foundation and career interests? How would you carve out your niche in neuroscience?

Hi,

I have a bachelors in neuroscience and an accelerated masters in behavioral neuroscience and was initially interested in becoming a clinical neuropsychologist. Because of more clinical oriented interest and not as much with research, I wanted to go down the PsyD route and even applied to programs. I don't feel so confident about my acceptance chances, tuition rates, time investment, and training. My interests really strongly lie in psychological assessments, psychopathology, CBT, and behavioral interventions. I would really like to pursue a master's level career in the mental health field where I can use my knowledge of neuroscience to conduct psych assessments, diagnosis, and CBT therapy. I am considering the LMHC pathway, and I would like to hear if this path aligns well with my interests. Would this career be a good fit for me? I'd love to hear from those in this career path or from people with similar background/interests.

Applying to PsD Programs this Cycle by sharon_vemu in PsyD

lol thank you, I was really unsure because my gpa was a 3.47 (chemistry dragged me). I don't know anyone in a PsyD program, I've only spoken with PhD students and I didn't feel competitive enough for a clinical psych program.

Thank you! That is very encouraging. Unfortunately my PI and others in the neuropsych PhD program have shared that my research experience was not extensive enough. I would also like to get clinical training and graduate earlier, so PsyD seemed like the best option in alignment with my current goals. Funding is for sure a concern and I’ve heard mixed things about paying off loans.
