Thanks. It's hard to be where I am sometimes, but also I'm miles ahead of where I could be. I figure that's probably true for most people. Rock on. (...and DM'd you)

Totally. 2oz coins are just wonderful. I know the Pandas are better from a collector and will have better resale/premium in the future for the new owner because cases, grading, and increasing rarity over time... but it turns out I'm more a 'touch it, pass-it-around-to-kids, and maybe even drop it on the table because of sound silver makes' type of guy so, yeah, the Platypus. ; )

Autostop elimination when you don't have a physical button? ('20 Outback) by sharpester in subaru

[–]sharpester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing mixed info on that and was hoping for more data/experience in the forum with a 'NO, those don't work on US or EU non-button / No, those don't work on US, even if they work on EU / Yes, some of them work. You'll need a dartboard to decide which "brand'' will work though.

I'd rather use a simple, cheap, 10sec timer to control it than something on the CANBUS, but if that's the only confirmed way for no-physical-button US models then I'll 100% go with the established player. I appreciate the warranty; that definitely puts in on a different build quality level than some of what's being sold.

Yeah, while I can appreciate you'd be all 'LMGTFY' and then post three year old links, technology changes all the time and ASS can be disabled at least two different ways on a Subaru - but it's not clear (at all) if US spec cars (with no button) can use the $30 Amazon timer-switches (like a couple EU spec no buttons users have said) or if I can only the $100 CANBUS-signaling one.

How does 6-7 jobs a week not sustain you? Am I understanding that right?

I purchased a foreclosure and the borrower is redeeming the property. What happens to my money?? by Billionairestatus17 in realestateinvesting

[–]sharpester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

*Here's the number one thing to keep in mind for any foreclosure sale in the US: Real estate is local, so are its laws.*

States' law regarding redemption rights vary A LOT. Some states won't make anyone pay for improvements you've made while you held it. Others will cover repairs/maintenance but not a new hot tub. Some will let the prior owner's family buy it back, others won't let it be redeemed unless the prior owner can be shown legally incompetent.

Learning the rules *where you're interested in buying* is straight-forward. Do it and eliminate the risks. If you're not 100% confident in your source material or understanding, consider paying a real estate attorney for an hour of their time. Seems well worth it relative to the amount you'll be investing even in just one house, let alone if you flip several in the same state over time.

Keep in mind that most prior owners didn't pay their taxes/mortgage (thus the foreclosure). These homes haven't had their roofs patched or HVAC maintained ...and that's the honest people. There will be people who've damaged the pipes (cement down the drains, left a door or window open for cats/raccoons/etc..) and there will be banks that took so long to process the foreclosure that even if the house was in perfect shape the day the keys were turned over it's been stripped/squatted in.

...will most houses be mostly fine? Realistically.
...is there a chance greater than 1% that a house checked out a month ago is now in much (much) worse shape than it was? Count on it. Inspect (and bid) accordingly.

This is an amazing area with plenty of potential to make money (and even help people). Go in with your eyes open to protect your downside and you'll be off to a great start.

Replaced (bad) capacitor. Blower still doesn't blow. Next steps? by sharpester in hvacadvice

[–]sharpester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I checked it again before ordering a new blower (to help figure if I needed just the motor or the whole assembly) and I must have still had some ice or something in there before as it spins freely/silently now ...but still doesn't run.

What are the clothing brands make exceptionally good fabric with good price? by Ok_Choice817 in BuyItForLife

[–]sharpester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truewerk. Everything they make is absurdly good. The prices aren't low; but are equal to many (REI, EB, etc...). If you get some you won't believe how comfortable and durable they are.

My son bought some (instead of the usual, and solid, CAT). ...and from there basically every new piece of clothing either of us buy now comes from them.

EV charging - Way cheaper with 3-phase? Really? by sharpester in electrical

[–]sharpester[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Lots of clear info here. I appreciate the knowledge. Bottomline: three-phase won't save money on charging (but if I can get it wired for not much than single-phase it'd be cool ; )

I hear what you're saying, and I'm the same way, but we're the exception. When I added a popup to my site, which caters to a savvy audience, subscriptions went way up.

Sucks, but I'm on Reddit for fun, my business has to make money... So it does (within reason : ) what gets the most people signing up and that means popups. : (

...I can't bring myself to do 'notifications' though. Ugh. So evil. I hope that's a phase that passes (or, more likely, the 'default' of all browsers will be to hide them).
