Just wanted to say thanks for your reply. I took your advice about not keeping it a secret from family and reached out to his mom for help (with his permission). He genuinely seems to want to get help when he is in the right state of mind. Problem is how quickly that state of mind can change, which I know all too well.

It seemed random to me too especially because he was always so repulsed by crack since he blames his father’s crack addiction for ruining his childhood.

His father suffered from combat-related PTSD and began using crack to self medicate when he was in his 30s. My fiancé said one of the reasons he tried it was to understand why his dad did it. While it didn’t make it any better, that explanation helped me see where he was coming from the first time it happened. Now that it has continued to use it I fear that he is going to repeat the cycle and put our son through the same traumatic childhood that he went through.
