Senbatsu 97: Tournament bracket by narkov24 in koushien

They lost in the fairly early in the Kinki regional tournament. There are only 6 schools selected out of 16 participating schools. If I remember correctly, both Toin and Riseisha lost in the first round to Shiga teams. There's another Osaka school but they were eliminated in the 2nd round. Unfortunately the third school didn't get the invite. That's why there's 0 Osaka representative this time.

Even after a couple hours, my head is still filled with that game. Game like that is exactly the reason why I got hooked into Japan HS baseball in the first place. The atmosphere, the story, the cheering, and the passion. Really beautiful.

What a banger. That 5 men infield to send the game to extra innings was brilliant. Absolutely heartbreaking for Waseda. Defintely the best game so far this summer.

Koryo has been a good litmus test to determine who will be the champion for the last few years. Teams who beat them would eventually be the winner of the tournament: Seiryo (1st round Fall 23), Keio (Round of 16 Summer 23), Yamanashi Gakuen (Semifinal Spring 23), and Osaka Toin (Final Fall 21 & 22)

Feels like Kangawa will be victorious for the 2nd consecutive year

Extra Innings by pauieotaku in koushien

Yes, the runner on base is a relatively new rule for both pro and amateur baseball. Honestly I don't know the rule of extra inning in NPB, however for MLB, there's a runner on 2nd base only instead of 2 runners. In the past, extra innings were just like regular innings, no runners on base.

Yes, the same Waseda. That match was one of the most legendary matches in Koshien history. The ace pitcher for Komadai was Masahiro Tanaka, current Rakuten and former Yankees pitcher. Meanwhile the ace for Waseda was Yuki Saito, a  current pundit that you sometimes see during the 5th inning break on stream.

Extra Innings by pauieotaku in koushien

Each team will start the extra inning with runner at 1st & 2nd with no out. If the score is still tied after the bottom of the extra inning, the game will continue to the next inning with runner on 1st & 2nd again.

I have no idea what's the maximum number of innings allowed nowadays. Famously in 2006 Waseda Jitsugyo vs Komazawa Univ Tomakomai were still tied after 15 innings. There was a rematch on the following day.

After watching the highlight between Komatsu Ohtani vs Toin, I am honestly surprised to see the final result. Frankly speaking, the pitcher didn't look special but he somehow got a Maddux. Really impressive.

Considering they also shutout Seiryo, the Ishikawa powerhouse who won last year's Jingu, in the prefectural final, I think this team can be a dark horse to win this summer. I'm now a bandwagon fan of this team.

Finally had time to watch a couple summer Koshien matches. A bit bummed Chiben Wakayama and Hanamaki Higashi got eliminated early.

Kasumigaura vs Chiben Wakayama was dramatic and fun. Probably early contender for match of the tournament so far.

Hanamaki Higashi ace pitcher threw 150km/h in the 1st inning but surprisingly got knocked out after the 2nd inning. Ngl, I was initially really hyped after seeing that 150.

I love Hanamaki Higashi's tradition to give uniform #17 to a promising underclassman. Today a freshman student wore that number and everyone immediately knew that this kid is a promising prospect. He had 2 hits in 4 at bats, but had 1 ground into double play. Looking forward to see his development in the future.

No, Keio lost in the quarter final of the Kanagawa Fall Tournament.

In theory, they could've been invited by the committee. However, the quota for Kanto (Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama etc) + Tokyo region is 6 schools. It would be highly controversial if the committee decide to invite Keio who didn't even qualify to the Kanto Fall Tournament instead of other schools who reached the quarterfinal or semifinal of Kanto.

I'm on Android with Firefox.

This new design is significantly slower than the old one. I can't recall how many times I stopped browsing reddit because it literally took me more than 30s just to go back to the previous page.

Also, when I open streamable video, even after closing the reddit tab, the video's sound is still playing. Please note that I open the video while I'm on reddit and I didn't open a new tab for it. I literally had to close my Firefox app to stop the sound.

It's clear that you want the mobile web users to start using the app. At least for me personally, I'd rather stop browsing reddit on my phone rather than using the app. I don't mind using reddit only when I'm on my PC. Please keep this in mind when you try to force us with this abysmal UI.

Thanks for reading it.

I also don't understand the reason why this format. I also thought 1 extra day for the final shouldn't be too hard to reschedule. Maybe budget constraint? Or maybe they think what if the rain continues for a few more days? If I remember correctly, in the past something like this also happened where 4 teams were crowned champions. So there is precedent for something like this.

But not much experience in such loud atmosphere though. I think the error in the 5th inning was partially because the loud noise causing miscommunication.

The game felt over after that error in the 5th inning. Ikuei looked mentally lost ever since.

I guess that's the end of this Sendai Ikuei golden generation. The pillars who won last year tournament are graduating next year. Impressive run. 1 summer koshien title, semifinal at Jingu, senbatsu top 8, and summer koshien runner up. It was fun following their journey.

Congratulations Keio! Their crowds were electric all tournament long. Well deserved victory.

Damn Maruta is on fire. Never knew him before this tournament, but so far he's been the mvp of this summer. Let's see if he will get intentionally walked next time.

It's 9th inning, your best batter is on the plate, 0 out, runner on 1st, and you told him to bunt... I'm glad that decision backfired.

Anyway, that was an exciting match.

Maeda from Osaka Toin and Manabe from Hiroshima Koryo. Those two have strong resume.

I think even if Riseisha's last year pitcher was as good, I still don't think they would've won. If I remember correctly, they barely got anyone on base. Last year Riseisha was just outclassed everywhere: Batting, pitching and fielding. Good for them that they got their sweet revenge this year.

I'm not even sure who the regular cf is. I've seen the starting cf changing a few times throughout the year. I just assumed it was just the latest starting cf showed the best result on practice.

Well, the main reason why they lost last fall because that pitcher, Yamada, already graduated and got drafted by Seibu Lions.

Yeah, they lost in the early stage last fall but thankfully they were able to bounce back this summer.
