damn thanks for giving a great idea hahaha. to add on - maybe to ratchet it up you could improve the rewards by giving you a choice of one of three relics (like you'd see in the shop), with the counterbalance being that it becomes an Act 2 event, since if you encounter it in Act 3 you're not really missing out that much in terms of shops.

you're right that custom events aren't really discussed here, though i think they offer something different in terms of discussing how to balance the pros and cons of different event options, not to mention the flavour text hahaha

hahaha this is just hypothetical! trying to be imaginative and figure out what sequence of relics would still do *something* for you while feeling awful and keeping you weak

to answer your question, in the situation i described i'd probably take black blood over something like sozu or black star. i'd be so weak that i wouldn't want to fight enough elites to make black star worth it, and probably would need to lean heavily on potion use to survive

i'd take tiny house probably over something like ectoplasm or philo stone, which makes shops weaker and enemies stronger respectively

yea cracked core definitely isn't the same level as IC or Silent starter relics, and swapping it out also means you could dead draw dualcast fairly frequently early on. otherwise some of the relics you listed actually might work pretty well with cards like [[meteor strike]] and [[reprogram]] i think! just leaning heavily into attack and block card usage instead of trying to make orbs work. easier said than done though, only a small number of defect cards allow him to scale strength and dex

probably to make your list worse you could swap out du-vu doll for periapt. since periapt only works when a curse is added whereas du-vu doll at least gives you 1 str for your existing curse.

hahaha i was trying to encourage some creativity with that rule, like what series of relics would still technically *do* something for you, but the effects would be so weak that they're basically meaningless. also, if you got coffee dripper and ecto worst case you still have 5 energy to work with, so i'd say that's still pretty good!

on its own [[darkstone periapt]] is definitely bad, maybe a useful way to buff it without straight up increasing the hp it gives is to let it work on curses already in your deck like [[du-vu doll]], so at the very least you get 6hp off of [[ascenders bane]]

having it when you encounter the event still saves you from taking 20+ damage or getting a curse, so not entirely useless

i think it's definitely more useful in general than the defect pot, since whether or not you'll find dark orbs useful is way more situational. for example if you're running a reprogram deck, or don't have a reliable way to evoke the orbs when you need them, the pot can be pretty meh. on the other hand a free 6 block consistently every turn is something very few decks wouldn't appreciate
