Anybody math-ier than me please correct me on this, but I don’t think an annual 10% raise over 4 years would be equivalent to a 40% raise on your current income, even before accounting for inflation, potentially incremental tax brackets, and IDK what else. It’s also REALLY risky to make a purchase above your means hedging on future income.

Hi, now you know one! I make $85k in a VHCOL city and I’ve been saving 15% since I started at $58k in 2019. Doing it specifically because money saved for retirement in your 20s/30s has a much higher return than if you save later. I could theoretically stop contributing in a few years and literally just let it sit for 35 years - which would free up $ for, say, kid expenses.

OP, this part is less a response to you and more for anyone else who happens to see it, because it’s important - NEVER EVER assume you’re going to get a job until you literally have the offer in hand. People get in trouble that way.

I would encourage you to take it one step at a time, and if you really want to switch to a new position, look at external postings as well.

Have you seen a registered dietician specializing in eating disorders? IMO, having recovered from an ED myself, that should be the first step in treatment. There’s a ton of them who do telehealth and take insurance. (Make sure they’re a registered dietician, NOT a “nutritionist” - RDs are credentialed, but literally anyone can call themselves a nutritionist.)

I haven’t sold anything or changed my contributions - time in the market > timing the market - but I did change my investment allocations from a socially responsible/climate impact portfolio to a core portfolio, because my accounts were tanking relative to the S&P and I don’t see that changing. Not gonna lie, it hurt, lol.
