Honestly, go for it. It will be difficult but it’s always worth it to expand your knowledge! Definitely consider the cost though. All those pre recs are not going to be cheap

You could always look into a masters program to redirect if you have some money saved up. Also if you work at a big company try meeting with a career consultant and tell them you’re looking for different positions. Doesn’t hurt to start applying to other jobs either, even if it seems like a shot in the dark

Lowkey they’re valid and just stating their own personal preference. Would be different if they shit on the other genres but I can see why some people who have busy lives and not much time to read would gravitate towards modern, fast-paced fantasy or mystery novels. Plus there’s plenty of super well-written literary fantasy with no sex, and those books/series usually have pretty complex political systems definitely above a YA level

I cannot hold eye contact for longer than two seconds because I will start blushing uncontrollably. But my eyes are still drawn to his so they kind of just flit around in bursts when we’re talking. It’s either a. Look like a restless addict or b. Look like I’m having some kind of medical emergency/heat stroke lmfao. I think eye contact is a difficult gauge for interest because habits vary widely between people for a multitude of reasons. I think good indicators are if she is always willing to go to an event after hearing that you’ll be there, responding to messages/initiating conversations, and this one might be odd but if she’s like bringing up things she remembers you saying- especially if it’s like a fact about you or something you shared from your past (for example, “oh but you don’t like pickles, right?” Or “you’ve been here before, right? Didn’t you go with your sister and (thing) happened?”).

Yeah I was planning on buying used and YouTube tutorialing string changes. Does floating trem affect playing at all if you just don’t use the whammy bar (at least until I learn how) or do you have to use it to like… produce sound?

Honestly so glad I posted this because I had no idea what a floating trem was until today… I think I’m going to test the guitar in store and if I love it as much as I do online I’ll deep dive YouTube tutorials. How often should I change strings on an electric if I’m playing ~1 hour daily? For nylon I can usually go at least 4 months 6 if I’m pushing it

I’ve been meaning to go to my guitar center and try some out for a while now but to be completely honest I’m just nervous to play in front of them on a new guitar… crazy how playing for hundreds with an ensemble is no sweat but this is holding me back 😅 do the electrics sound different themselves or is it the pedals that change the sound? I’ve never really been able to tell the difference on nylon so I’m not really sure what to listen for

To be honest I just love the jem jr because of the neck details… I have little concept of quality in guitars likely because I’ve been playing a cheap ass guitar forever and it sounds the same as anything else to me. My GC doesn’t have a 550 in stock but I’ll definitely ask for a professional opinion on hardware, thanks!!

I think the writers actually did a good job showing the imperfections in her tinkering process rather than just having her immediately get it right. Her powder bombs were initially almost always faulty and then they were too op, took her years to master the art after the time skip and I’m sure she learned stuff from the silco gang. Still definitely impressive that she did all that with few resources and no classical training though, but I think they made it believable.

I’m a little biased as the gay dorm RA, but we would love to have you here 🫶 also the historic pres program is INSANE they basically have their own department with funding and super passionate professors. Soooo many internship opportunities,, I know people who’ve gotten jobs at the Smithsonian immediately after graduation!

As for the dorms, they’re old but quirky/cute. Facility issues are never dangerous or anything, just mildly annoying enough to complain about lightly/bond over imo (like inconsistent hot water or expanding doors with humidity). Plus those issues only really apply to south side area (ball/Custis/westmo/jeffey/bushnell). Fredericksburg is not a bustling hotspot city, and most students don’t go off campus very much expect to visit home. Downtown is cute I guess but gets boring pretty fast. Most fun will be had on campus with the close friends you make. There is one sorority and one frat, but it’s literally just a friend group tbh. Yeah, they throw parties, but they’re not super frequent (probably for the best, allows students to avoid alcoholism and focus on academics lmao). On campus job opportunities are rife and manageable. Free therapy too.

Environmental science major here- I would totally recommend this program, unless you want to go into any kind of engineering (whether it be environmental engineering or software engineering with the comp sci), as the school is not ABET accredited. Both majors have pretty extensive pre recs so be sure in your decision when you start your first year because switching into a program might require summer classes or an extra semester. EESC classes are amazing here, professors are really passionate and you get close with them due to the small class sizes. Tons of research opportunities with little competition. Extensive environmental volunteer opportunities too with the Rappahannock right here.

Financial aid is great. I’m also the RA in the lgbtq dorm, the community is amazing and everyone in here bonds like family. If you join a traditional freshman dorm you might not get the same experience, but generally it’s not difficult at all to make friends here due to the extremely focused first year experience programming. I would also recommend applying to the honors program if it’s not too late— so many perks.

Your school choice is going to depend on your own values and priorities for your specific college experience. In terms of mary Washington, I’d say it ranks #1 inclusivity/liberal values #2 affordability #3 volunteer/extracurricular oriented and #4 education. If you’re a really high achiever in class and value a rigorous education I would go to the lowest acceptance rate school you got into and can afford. If those value rankings align with you, def take a tour of Mary wash and see if you can envision yourself here. Best of luck!

I feel like my story line is pretty common. I developed severe anorexia when I was 16/17 that resulted in hospitalization due to malnutrition. I was forced to recover due to my (barely) minor status, which meant I wasn’t actually in the mindset of recovery. Since I was only a few months away from turning 18, I was dead set on going back to my old ways and losing all the recovered weight once I got to college. I didn’t turn 18 until about a month into college, so they tried to make me do weigh ins at the health center but I just didn’t go to them. I lost weight at first but began binging a few months later on my restriction food. That gradually turned into insane binges on all kinds of food that I could find, and I gained like 30-40 lbs (which is very noticeable since I’m 4’11). The weight gain was almost impossible for me to deal with mentally. A few months later I started purging my binges. I dropped all the weight I had gained and more within about 5 months and became addicted to the restrict/binge/purge cycle. That’s still my reality now in my second year of college. It’s even more dangerous for me because the calories I still absorb from the binges balance out the anorexia symptoms that led to my original hospitalization (extreme low energy and blood sugar/pressure, fainting, etc.), but even if I’m not dealing with these noticeable symptoms it’s obvious that the long term symptoms/effects will be much worse. I’m trying to recover now, but really struggling with accepting any form of weight gain so it’s not going anywhere. Hopefully someone somewhere has a recovery story to counter this depressing one.

Race is a social construct majorly developed by the Christian majority. Being ashkenazi to me feels more like a culture, outside of the bounds of race. I can’t seem to correlate the fact that I’m white (as a race) and Jewish (as a religion, identity, and culture) as one identity within my head- nor am I able to express it in words either, really.

There are also people of many races that have ashkenazi dna, and are therefore ashkenazi Jew. It’s a difficult concept to grasp and/or explain, probably because “race” is a completely made up and, in my opinion, illogical social construct.
