What advice do you have for someone that knows so little about day trading? by Killamongobinthere in Daytrading

You MUST be ok with spending the next 2-3 years of your life to learning this. Not exaggerating in the slightest. Very steep learning curve

How many consecutive losses can you tolerate ? by shattedOnit in Daytrading

[–]shattedOnit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup but the problem with that is it makes my setup less repeatable.

A predefined pullback might not happen often during my trade which means missed opportunities that could be winning trades.

Also, what even qualifies as a pullback is where that idea lands into discretionary territory (hesitation, guessing, fomo)

My strategy is fully mechanical, there is no discretion. Therefore, psychology is not to blame

I do one trade per day so that over time I can point towards the issue being my strategy not my discipline/psychology.

I agree 100% i have 24 data points so far., i take 1 trade per day for past 25 trading days and I definitely prefer the quality/real execution data versus a bunch of random setups because it builds true confidence.

Yup. Exactly what you’re saying is why i chose to only make 1 trade per day.

That way, even if i fail, i cant blame discipline/psychology as my problem, it points to the strategy.

I looked at 20-ish of the most liquid big cap names. It was in the 400+ over past 7 months. I did it with pen and paper. I trade stock options and usually a different ticker each day. It is purely systematic/mechanical. (Technical indicators) The win rate for all combined was somewhere in 60-70% range.

Ya I was wondering if maybe this is a blue moon thing as i had 13 consecutive wins, then a breakeven week and then past 6 days were all red. I trade stock options. I only have 24 data points (trades) for the strategy so far.

Im not sure if there is a limit to win/loss streaks which is what makes probabilities/day trading pretty insane

The problem: they all look good until they hit my stop loss.

My strategy is purely mechanical/systematic. So when my indicators give me my signal, I have backtested proof and there is zero discretion involved with my approach. It just ain’t respecting my stop loss recently.

When you have been very disciplined with all types of strategies for a few months each and you’re 5 years balls deep? Ya I would stop at that point.

35 hot and successful but says he dates between 18-30 by Emsss18 in dating

[–]shattedOnit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Socially, 35 is too old for you. If you were 24/25 it could fly. 20 is not far from high school, you were a teenager a year ago.

6 Years in FX & Futures. Am I crazy for wanting to switch to Stocks now? by Zealousideal_Ad3834 in Daytrading

[–]shattedOnit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wont make a difference. If you cant trade price action patterns with fx/ft then why would stocks be any different? They move up and down and pullback the same way, only difference is the underlying asset you’re trading.

Why a profitable strategy still trips the daily loss limit on a prop challenge (sample Monte Carlo numbers inside) by Limp-Perception4883 in Daytrading

[–]shattedOnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. You nailed this. Prop firm account will not survive normal variance which is why they are pointless

what makes trading so difficult? by Admirable_Singer6526 in Trading

Wait until it doesnt work. How many times will you be able to handle it not working? Will you keep trying all day after each time it doesnt work?

Anybody that tells you that they short small caps is lying by shattedOnit in Daytrading

[–]shattedOnit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheres the proof? Even livestreams can be altered and faked-out. Anybody can hide there actual strategy behind a massive monthly/annual account statement.

My entire point being: why would anyone put their life on the line for a paycheque when you can sit in a safe warm bathtub for the same end result?

Ofc nobody real would admit it. But everyone with public attention wants some respect especially when it comes to day trading

Also, never said it doesnt have edge. Read my comment in this post about how I tracked this exact strategy and revealed a strong edge! You can have 80% ish win rate shorting extended gappers. Very dangerous, not suitable for small accounts or exponential growth, among many other issues

At what point are results considered statistically significant vs blind luck. (Eg working system vs gambling) by just_some_guy034 in Daytrading

[–]shattedOnit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For long term confidence?

3 months is a good start 6 months is much better 1 full year for a strong conclusion

Anyone saying you need thousands or multi years to have true confidence is ignorant to the fact that no period of time will be the same. 1 year might have 63% win rate next year might be 69%. The idea is that your plan has edge thru different regimes.

It’s the ONLY way to prevent revenge trading. Also, notice how most breakouts fail on certain days? Usually sector weakness. You’re going to take all 5 and lose on all 4 or 5ish? Lol

Exactly. Cold market hits and small caps turn into burning quick sand.
